Kelvin McKnight originally signed with Denver as a rookie free agent this spring.

The New England Patriots’ practice squad returned to capacity on Wednesday.

Kelvin McKnight, an undrafted wide receiver out of Samford, signed on and wore No. 17 on the Gillette Stadium backfields.

McKnight originally entered the league with the Denver Broncos this spring.

The 5-foot-8, 186-pound rookie free agent caught seven passes for 43 yards during Denver’s preseason, and was waived on Labor Day weekend.

As a senior at Samford, McKnight recorded 100 receptions for 1,453 yards and nine touchdowns. He finished his Bulldogs career as the program’s all-time leader with 312 receptions for 4,121 yards and 32 touchdowns.

McKnight also amassed 110 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries during his stay in the Southern Conference. And on special teams, the 44-game starter tacked on 643 return yards and one score over the course of 74 punts.

New England hosted McKnight for a free-agent workout on Tuesday.

A spot opened on the scout team with the release of linebacker Scooby Wright III.
