Another classy exit for a classy player.
One of the cruelest parts of the business side of the NFL is that when a significant player gets traded away, there is no exit press conference or media session. The player is there one day, and he’s gone the next. His locker room is cleaned out, and his name plate is either replaced or just removed altogether.
That will be the stark reality for the Detroit Lions on Wednesday as the team attempts to move forward without Quandre Diggs, who was shipped to the Seahawks in a trade that netted Detroit just a fifth-round pick for the price of Diggs and a seventh rounder. As an emotional leader of the secondary and a captain of the defense, his absence will certainly be felt from end to end of that locker room
Thankfully, Diggs did leave his Lions teammates and the fans with a message via social media. It reads:
Wow!! Never thought this would be my last picture running out the tunnel in Ford Field.. To all my former teammates I love you guys and it was a pleasure going to battle with y’all! Made friendships that will last forever! Thank you also to the Ford family for the hospitality and drafting a 22 year old kid from Angleton, TX! Lions fans I love you guys from the bottom of my heart you guys deserve the best, made me feel at home and kept the stadium rocking!Seattle let’s get it!! Ready to get to work and win more games!! Too hyped!! @tdlockett12 @ziggy_ansah my brothers here I come!!
Obviously, Diggs will still be in contact with some of the life-long friendships he made in the Lions locker room. Still, it will be a sudden adjustment for the players and fans to move on from Diggs so quickly.
For now, thanks Nino for four-and-a-half years of inspiring play and pure dedication.
