News, links to articles, updates and more from DC area writers and national sports journalists
The Daily Twitter will be posted at the beginning of every day (at midnight in Washington, DC). The goal is to give readers a handy spot to check the Redskins beat writers & bloggers, and national sports journalists to keep up on the latest news about the Redskins, the NFL, and sports in general, along with a smattering of other things.

Dwayne Haskins asked about reports that he might not be ready for NFL action. “That’s really a joke, I pride myself on reading defenses.” Coaches have praised Haskins a lot this week. pic.twitter.com/yuQNMrmENQ
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) October 18, 2019
Considering O'Connell had JUST said the above, this isn't a great look from Haskins IMO.

It's okay to admit you're learning. He's not fooling anybody. Just admit this is a process. I don't get this. https://t.co/9Ql7wYaBn0
Imagine having others talking about how you’re not good at you’re job after a limited sample size then responding with an ounce of emotion when asked about it; personally I like the fire, I like the mindset, hope it helps him become a better player in the long run https://t.co/e21E9xGYwi
— Not Robert Griffin (@Pseudo_RGIII) October 18, 2019
I realize I'm whacking a hornets nest here b/c everyone wants Dwayne to be good and any criticism of him is seen as someone else's fault, but between coaches on the record and players off it, just know that he's taking the right steps and things have been changing. That's good!
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) October 18, 2019
My point is that he's not fooling any of us. Everybody can see the Giants tape. If that wasn't a wakeup call, that would be a bigger issue.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) October 18, 2019
It's really just not understanding why he can't go "yup, and I was so excited to get back to work and do the work I'm doing now."
Still here. The coach and offensive coordinator have both publicly said Haskins isn't there yet (but he's progressing, which is good). Then he says he's there. It's a bad look, especially in an organization where star players have been known to call the shots. https://t.co/ZPKjjVNenr

Good news: radio isn’t. Just had a GREAT chat about it with Dukes.

Out for Sunday: Chris Thompson and Vernon Davis plus Everett, Martin, Harvey-Clemons.
Josh Norman questionable. Didn't practice all week.

The way Ereck Flowers has improved at guard, I can only imagine what might have been had Trent been lined up next to him. That could’ve been something worth watching! #httr #Redskins pic.twitter.com/xDza42H0Ic

Watching a little of the #49ers run game. It's amazing watching them work.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) October 18, 2019
Their players just understand their assignments at a really high level. Oversimplified - essentially find the closest color and hammer it. Zone running at its finest.
Former #Redskins head coach Jay Gruden just had a long chat with @granthpaulsen and @funnydanny. If you missed any of it, you can REWIND and catch up with https://t.co/OnidJpTZJQ REWIND now on the https://t.co/OnidJpTZJQ app or at https://t.co/8oSSMvBO6Z. pic.twitter.com/zOwZ0BjGEH

Jay Gruden blames injuries and health for his failures. He mentioned those two issues between 15-20 times. More than any other failure, he blamed injuries. That is why he is a mediocre coach at best.
— Samuel Shaw, II (@sam_spg94) October 18, 2019
Here's @TroyAikman on Gruden/Redskins during TNF: "I think (Jay Gruden) is a good coach. There's been a lot of dysfunction in Washington. It's a shame because our league is better when those types of franchises are competitive. But it's been so long since that happened."
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) October 18, 2019
️How close were the Redskins to trading Trent Williams this past week?

Look, Kyle Shanahan is an offensive innovator and most everything he says about the #Redskins org is probably accurate.
— Gary Fitzgerald (@GaryRFitzgerald) October 18, 2019
But when he was in DC, he was one of the least personable coaches I ever met. No surprise to me that he failed to connect with Dan Snyder. https://t.co/Cbb5D83OU2
I'd recommend people that missed Donte Whitner just now use the rewind function on https://t.co/GAfvkGq8z7 and check it out. He basically trashed Jay, Manusky, Perry Fewell, Josh Norman. Actually had positive things to say about Dan. My head is spinning from all his opinions.

Does the Patrick Mahomes injury ACTUALLY affect the Redskins QB situation??

Pat Mahomes’ body language was better walking off the field with a dislocated kneecap than Joe Flacco’s was on Denver’s latest three-and-out.

Heading into the all-important MRI today, here is where it stands for #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes: He’s expected to be out at least three weeks with a dislocated kneecap, but there is some real optimism from those involved that he can play through the ailment after that.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 18, 2019
From @gmfb: The early returns are in for #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee), who is expected to be out at least 3 weeks. The MRI will tell if that's all he's out, or if it's much more. pic.twitter.com/2q4Ow7cMJZ

If you are healthy enough to stand in the pocket with Von Miller on the other side of the field, you are also healthy enough to fall forward for 18 inches. https://t.co/p0EvViP5kL
Awesome team win! Love my brothers! Thank you for all the prayers! Everything looking good so far! #GodisGood #ChiefsKingdom
— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) October 18, 2019
The MRI has confirmed the #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap, but not significant additional damage, sources tell me and @JamesPalmerTV. He’ll seek additional opinions to be sure. The plan is for him to return this season after a brief absence.

Anybody else find it crazy that the Patriots went from a receiving corps of Antonio Brown, Josh Gordon, and Julian Edelman to potentially a receiving corps of a banged up Edelman, Jakobi Meyers, and Gunner Olszewski in like five weeks?

Carlson now has three assists tonight, his second-straight three point game. It's his third three-point game of the season and his second three assist game. He entered the season with five career three assist games.
