Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller: Staying in Denver, an idea that’s catching on is the possibility of shopping Miller, with NFL Network analyst and former Eagles scout Daniel Jeremiah suggesting Howie make a call. It’s not that farfetched — Broncos general manager John Elway himself raised the prospect of shopping Miller back in the offseason. And while the seven-time Pro Bowler is a linebacker by trade, he’s played with his hand in the dirt before. The cost would be high, surely starting with a first-round pick and then some, plus $18 million in 2020 and ’21, when Miller will be 32. A case can also be made defensive end isn’t even the real issue for the Eagles’ defense. But when you can add anybody who registered 14.5 sacks only a season ago, you’ve got to at least look into it.

The New York Jets take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the City of Brotherly Love this Sunday. Previewing this matchup, Brandon Gowton, the Manager of Bleeding Green Nation, was kind enough to answer a few questions for me regarding the 2019 Eagles. Anyway, a common thing I hear from the Sendejo stans is how useless fourth- or fifth-round picks are, and they’d rather just have the player. Even if that’s the logic (that I don’t agree with, for the record), you know who does value mid-round picks? OTHER TEAMS! For example, the value of utilizing draft picks to move up and down in the draft aside, at the trade deadline last season, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix got dealt for a 4. I’ll take a player like Clinton-Dix, who actually has NFL skills, all-day-every-day over a player like Sendejo, whose only real value (if you’d call it that) is his complete disregard for his own safety and that of the other players on the field, teammates included.
Game Review – PHI 34, GB 27 - Iggles Blitz
Coaching also made a big difference in this game. Doug Pederson had his players well-rested and pushed all the right buttons. Matt LaFleur made some questionable decisions and play-calls. Pederson embraced the run game and really stuck with it. I loved the way he mixed in screens to TEs and RBs. Pederson made one call that some questioned. The Eagles went up 27-20 after scoring a TD. Pederson decided to go for 2, hoping to build a two-possession lead. The play didn’t work. If they kick the extra point, they lead by 8 and that puts extra pressure on GB. I agreed with the call to go for it. The two-possession lead is worth the risk. It didn’t work this time, but I liked the aggression. There are issues for Pederson and the Eagles to work on. The pass defense was bad for much of the game. Part of this is due to injuries at CB, but the DBs who did play simply need to do a better job. It would help if the pass rush really got going as well. This game featured another slow start. Before you could blink, the Eagles were down 10-0. This has to stop.

New York has the second-lowest implied point total of the week (15.25), while the Eagles are the second-most heavily favored team of the week (-14.0). Philadelphia’s defense hasn’t been especially productive this year, but the Jets are giving up the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses (12.3). They also sport our fifth-worst offensive line by pressure rate over expectation, and the Eagles rank fourth-best by the same stat.

“It’s a lot more communicating now. I got to do everything,” Bradham said. “When I was playing [strong-side], I could just play, I could be in my zone more, and I could talk more trash and [stuff] like that. No joke. That’s real. But now I got responsibilities. Then I didn’t have no responsibilities.” Bradham doesn’t remember how he became the Eagles’ middle linebacker; it just sort of happened over time. While his transformation reflects Schwartz’s trust in him, it also speaks to the sea change at linebacker in the NFL. Linebackers have increasingly become interchangeable. Bradham, for instance, may play all three spots over the course of a game. The days of specialization are waning. Offenses are almost as likely to throw on first down as they are third down, which has placed an emphasis on versatility.

4. Philadelphia Eagles (2-2). Injuries have hit the Eagles hard this season, but at least on offense, they’ve largely been able to weather the storm. When Philadelphia gets DeSean Jackson back—which is expected to happen at some point in the next couple of weeks—it should help unlock a passing game that’s shown flashes of greatness. The defense is a bit more concerning, considering how much the secondary has struggled. And with Malik Jackson on injured reserve and Timmy Jernigan banged up, the pass rush has also had a slow start. But Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham are too talented for that unit to stay down for long.

When Jason Kelce was just shy of turning 2 years old, he was in the hospital with his family waiting for his brother, Travis, to be born. One of the nurses went up to young Jason and asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up. Jason didn’t respond by saying a pro athlete, a doctor, or a superhero, as kids might say. Jason Kelce told the nurse that he wanted to be a dad. On Wednesday evening, that dream became a reality as Kelce’s wife, Kylie, gave birth to a healthy, beautiful daughter, Wyatt Elizabeth, who tipped the scales at eight pounds, six ounces. Kelce said that the new mom and baby are both doing great, describing the birth as an incredible moment. The Kelces had the name Wyatt picked out for a boy and Charlotte for a girl, but friends used Charlotte for their children. They both liked how Wyatt sounded as a girl’s name and went with it.

The Eagles’ cornerback depth chart might seem dire. For Rasul Douglas, it’s almost all he’s known. Douglas is the only cornerback from the Week 1 roster who has fully participated in practice this week. You can count on him starting Sunday, when the Eagles face the New York Jets, as he’s done 14 times scattered across three seasons. He has never entered a season as an unquestioned starter, but the Eagles have made a habit of turning to Douglas. And he’s made a habit of being available. “I don’t have a secret,” Douglas said of staying healthy. “I hope you’re not trying to get me injured for saying that.” Douglas, 24, takes care of his body with regular massages, time in the cold tub and cupping. Some of his durability has been good fortune. But the net result is that he’s become a reliable player at an unreliable position for the Eagles. Since the Eagles drafted Douglas in 2017, the team’s cornerbacks have missed 59 games due to injuries. Douglas, though, has never missed a game because of an injury. The third-round pick was a healthy scratch twice as a rookie. His closest call came last season, when ankle and knee injuries sidelined Douglas for all three practices leading up to a Nov. 25 win over the Giants. He was “questionable” for the game but still dressed, although he played only two defensive snaps. (That injury situation was even worse for the Eagles than this week; Chandon Sullivan and De’Vante Bausby started at cornerback.) Otherwise, Douglas’ durability has been critical for the Eagles.

Joe Webb, Vikings (2010): This is one of the more famous instances of a bad quarterback playing well against the Eagles, which the fan base remembers well. The numbers don’t jump off the page (195 passing yards, no touchdowns, 31 rushing yards and one touchdown) but he played a big part in beating the Eagles 24-14 in a late-season game where he was in for an injured Brett Favre. He only eventually converted to wide receiver.

The Dallas Cowboys got a reality check against the New Orleans Saints. After dominating the first three games, they were stymied by a fierce defense. Before that game, our Michael Strawn and Tom Ryle had a few concerns. Now, with the 3-1 Green Bay Packers rolling in, they have a few more. Michael: Well, my biggest concern is the offensive line. Bob Sturm and several of the video analysts showed the Cowboys repeatedly ran the ball into 6-man fronts - which is exactly what you want. An average running team should be successful running against six men. A team that has invested as much as the Cowboys have in the OL and running back position should be ripping off huge chunks of yards in such situations.

The Saints were able to beat the Cowboys by shutting down the run game without committing extra players to the box. They basically manhandled the Cowboys highly thought of offensive line, especially along the interior. The Cowboys have guard Zack Martin who is usually all-world but he is dealing with a back issue. Center Travis Frederick is also usually all-world but he is battling back from missing last season with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The other guard, Connor Williams, is still just an average player. The interior of the line is struggling at the moment so I would make sure to stuff that area in the run game and force the Cowboys to try something else besides their usual battering ram of Ezekiel Elliott through the middle of the line. In the passing game, get after Prescott if you can, if he’s given any time he’s been deadly this year. You have to play your corners tight on the Cowboys receivers and make Prescott hold the ball. If he gets it out on time the offense is running like a machine.

Jay Gruden spoke to the media after today’s practice and said what everyone knew he was going to say; Colt McCoy is your Washington Redskins starting QB this week! The Patriots come to town and they will have to face a hungry McCoy who hasn’t played since breaking his leg against the Eagles last season. Exciting stuff.

Complicating matters is the lingering question, dating back to draft day, of whether Redskins Coach Jay Gruden viewed Haskins as the right choice for the team. Before Haskins was selected, ESPN reported that Washington’s coaching staff preferred a more experienced college player — like Duke’s Daniel Jones, who was selected sixth overall by the New York Giants — only to be overruled by owner Daniel Snyder. A person with knowledge of Gruden’s thinking has confirmed that the head coach did not want Haskins, and while Haskins has publicly downplayed any suggestion that he wasn’t Gruden’s choice, a person close to the rookie quarterback said that Haskins has sensed that to be the case.

Chris Harris, Denver Broncos. The four-time Pro Bowler has reiterated his commitment to Denver after suggesting recently he’s looking forward to leaving in 2020 free agency, but the writing is on the wall. After holding out this past offseason and settling for a restructured one-year contract in 2019, Harris isn’t long for Vic Fangio’s defense. He’s not been nearly as effective early this year, but he’s got a history of strong play both on the outside and in the slot. Denver, meanwhile, is 0-4 and sinking fast, they already have Fangio favorite Bryce Callahan locked up beyond ‘19, and they could be motivated to stock up on draft capital as they continue rebuilding.

I’m very excited for the return of Golden Tate. I’ve been stashing him in a couple of leagues waiting fo this day to arrive and it makes me even happier that he’ll be playing with Danny Dimes rather than Eli Manning. We remember Tate last having a hard time getting on the same page as Carson Wentz and getting lost in the Eagles offense after they traded for him. But don’t forget, he started the season with the Lions and was on pace for 1182 yards and seven touchdowns. He can still ball and ball hard. I think Tate could end up being a consistent WR2 for you and finish in the top 25 at receiver for the rest of the season. This of course all without seeing how he looks in New York’s offense but I have faith.

These teams are likely in the dance: Whether it’s by winning their division or as a wild card, I expect these teams to make the playoffs. Philadelphia Eagles. They’re so well coached and have an elite quarterback in Carson Wentz. They are 2-2, but ranked at sixth because they are a well-balanced team. The Eagles know how to win and I think their victory in Green Bay with some key parts back in the lineup will fire them up. The Eagles are in the playoffs.
