The Orange and Black Insider Bengals podcast: Problem-solving

This week, the crew asks about how quickly a 2020 turnaround can occur with high slated picks, as well as where wins could come from on the 2019 schedule and whether or not the NFL is beginning to resemble some facets of how the MLB operates.

As if an 0-6 start under a new coaching regime wasn’t bad enough, more turmoil is surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals. After it looked like both Cordy Glenn and A.J. Green might have made their respective returns against the Jaguars, familiar drama and disappointing news appeared as the week rolled onward.

We chatted about a number of items on this week’s Orange and Black Insider, and while viewer interest in the team wanes with a winless month and a half to kickoff, fans continue to show their passion for and concern with the team’s apparent lack of direction.

On this week’s episode:

  • Why aren’t the Bengals using more two and three tight end sets—particularly in the red zone? With the accrued injuries at wide receiver and the team’s ineffectiveness in the red zone, why wouldn’t they use the players in which they had heavy investments?
  • A reliable NFL record predictor recently put the Bengals at 3-13 to end 2019. Where would those three wins come from this year?
  • Cincinnati is currently slated to have high picks in the 2020 draft. The last times the team held similar positioning they struck gold in 2003 and 2011. Can they be trusted to do so again next year?
  • What are some film takeaways from the Bengals’ loss to the Ravens and what’s ahead for them against the Jaguars?
