Thursday night football open thread

Tonight, the Arizona Cardinals play host to the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.

Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury will unleash their Air Raid offense on one of the league’s best defenses and frontrunner for defensive rookie of the year, Nick Bosa.

Last week, the 49ers demolished the Titans upcoming opponent, the Carolina Panthers, by a score of 51-13. I wonder if that’s bad for the Titans, giving the Panthers a renewed sense of focus for this game. Sure hope not.

We’re 8 weeks into the season, which is usually around the point where everything starts to flip around and all our expectations are upended. Last year at this time, the Redskins were 5-2. The Bengals were 5-3. The Bears were 4-3. The Ravens were 4-4. The Colts were 3-5.

We all know how the year finished. In case you don’t remember, Washington lost 7 of its last 9 games to finish 7-9. The Bengals only won one more game to finish 6-10. The Bears only lost one more game and finished 12-4. The Ravens hadn’t even switched to Lamar Jackson yet; they went on to finish 10-6. And the Colts of course also lost just one more game, finishing the year 1st in the AFC South at 10-6.

So my initial thought was to expect the 49ers to blow out the Cardinals this week. For exactly that reason, I’m going to go with Arizona +10.5 tonight.

Am I crazy?
