Fresh off a victory over Detroit, Minnesota looks to defeat a struggling Washington team.
Tonight’s edition of Thursday Night Football sees one team looking to gain traction in a competitve NFC North, while the other is looking to find something positive this season.
The Minnesota Vikings are finally looking like a playoff contender after a slow start to their season. They have rattled off three-straight victories, the latest of which was an offensive dismantling of the Detroit Lions. With Dalvin Cook in MVP form, and Kirk Cousins bouncing back, they are looking like one of the NFC’s most complete and dangerous teams. The defensive secondary is perhaps a concern, having given up a four touchdown game to Marvin Jones Jr. last week, but their front seven remains a significant strength.
As for Washington, they have very few strengths. Sitting a 1-6 in the NFC East, their season is all but finished, though they had minimal expectations coming into the season. Their sole win has come against the paltry Miami Dolphins, and that was by a mere point. Their offensive is a disaster. Their quarterbacks—whether it be Case Keenum, Colt McCoy, or Dwayne Haskins—have struggled immensely. As for their run game, Derrius Guice suffered an early season-ending injury, and both Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson are nursing injuries—Thompson has already been ruled out. The lone bright spot on offense has been rookie Terry McLaurin, and he has made due with the arm talent available.
On paper, it could be an ugly one, but let’s try to enjoy some football as Week 8 kicks off.
