Week 4 quarterback roundup

The QB Scho Show #35!

As BLG pointed out earlier, Carson Wentz is performing at a high level. Among ingrained starters, Pro Football Focus grades out Wentz as the best of the best through the first quarter of the season.

On The QB Scho Show #35, I asked Mark Schofield about Wentz’s efficient Week 4 performance and his thoughts on how highly Wentz has been regarded by PFF.

“It’s a data point. I think he’s playing well. PFF grades, whether you believe them or not... they do have people that know what they’re talking about especially at the quarterback position. Their grades are usually in the ballpark of where guys are playing.

And so the fact that he’s the top graded quarterback, whether he’s one, two, three or four, whatever, he’s playing well right now and I don’t think their offensive struggles that they’ve seen along the way have really anything to do with him. I think it’s more timing and circumstance and injury and personnel.” - Mark Schofield

As noted before, the Eagles’ offense has had some hiccups for various reasons but they still rank fourth in touchdown drive efficiency. Schofield went on to praise Wentz for his pre-snap processing which has allowed him to get the ball out when needed on the Eagles’ quick game concepts and also audible into shot plays when they present themselves.

“He’s active in the pre-snap phase... I thought he was very good in the pre-snap phase of plays against the Packers... You get into that second quarter, third quarter period, I thoguht he was out there throwing absolute darts on these quick game routes. I do feel like where that’s probably at his best, working the short and intermediate areas of the field.” - Mark Schofield

We cover Wentz’s game in detail along with detailing Dwayne Haskins’ abysmal debut, Josh Allen’s quicksand game against the Patriots, Chase Daniel running the Bears’ offense more effectively than that other guy, the toothless Jets with Luke Falk, and the decision facing Adam Gase that could literally kill Sam Darnold.
