Week 6 college football standouts

Clutch performances were the name of the game in Week 6 of the 2019 college football season. With a few big matchups and bigger wins, quite a few players had noteworthy games that helped their teams and sometimes helped their draft stock even more.

Senior receiver James Proche was crucial in SMU’s overtime victory against Tulsa on Saturday. The six-foot senior caught 11 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns, including a breathtaking walk off score in overtime.

Proche has had sticky fingers for SMU this year, reeling in 45 catches and scoring seven times already. He’s been crucial in SMU’s undefeated start to the season. After a 93 catch, nearly 1200 yard campaign last year where he scored 12 times, Proche looks to have grown even deadlier. He is a tough, physical receiver and dependable hands are an asset in any offense. It will be exciting to watch him continue to produce as SMU’s undefeated run is defended every week.

In a more high profile game, Derrick Brown came up with a big time performance for Auburn against Florida. Now, we can argue that “clutch” has to beget a win; but I’d say that Brown did everything in his power to beat Florida on his own. The senior defender was monstrous on passing downs, clogged up running lanes and almost housed a fumble return.

His full skill set, athleticism and all, was on display in a losing effort against the Gators. Brown is a premier defensive linemen in this upcoming draft class. He’s had a strong start to the year and more games like what he did in Florida and his name will he called very early on draft night.
