Will Todd Gurley be out on Sunday?

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It sounds like the Rams are preparing to be without Todd Gurley this Sunday

The San Francisco 49ers have received unfortunate news regarding the health of their players a couple of times following their convincing Week 5 win against the Cleveland Browns this past Monday. Shortly after the conclusion of the game, news broke that fullback Kyle Juszczyk would be out 4-6 weeks with a knee (MCL) injury. And earlier today it was announced that OT Mike McGlinchey is having his knee scoped and will also miss a month, if not more. Those are massive losses for the 49ers’ offense.

But the Los Angeles Rams also had notable names on their injury report on Wednesday — namely star running back Todd Gurley (quad).

Having had an entire offseason of knee saga under his belt, it’s entirely plausible to think that Gurley was just getting a day of veterans rest. But McVay did confirm that there is an injury to Gurley’s left quad. Maybe more newsworthy is that it’s news to them, as well:

Being so early in the week, it kind of caught us all off guard and he’s so tough and he plays through so many different things. I think he’d be better in-tune to say exactly how he feels, but there’s still so much time and guys turn over different things like that.

Ok. So there’s time, and maybe this is nothing. But do McVay and the Rams plan to handle the situation, given the magnitude of this game and the implications on their current standing in the NFC West:

I think we just want to take it a day at a time. A lot of these conversations entail, ‘All right, how’s he feeling, what kind of progress does he make throughout the course of the week?’ Fortunately for us, we’ve got some depth at that position.

Alright. That maybe insinuates their intentions to be without him — or at least plan as if he’s out — and primarily because he touches on a Plan B.

To that end, it sounds as if we may be seeing an increased workload for rookie RB Darrell Henderson.

We’ve talked about it, whether it’s this week, at some point, the confidence we have in Malcolm Brown. There’s also going to be a time that we’re going to rely on (RB) Darrell Henderson Jr., it might end up being this week.

...it might end up being this week.

Stay tuned. Todd Gurley may very well play next Sunday, in what many figure to be a must-win game. But it definitely sounds as though they’re also going to be preparing as if he’s not.
