The game will be the middle of three nationally televised games
The NFL and the Buffalo Bills announced that the team’s Week 16 game at the New England Patriots has been flexed to the 4:25 slot on Saturday, December 21. The game will be the second of three nationally televised matchups to air on NFL Network that day.
The first game of the day will kick off at 1 o’clock Eastern time, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing host to the Houston Texans. In the nightcap, the Los Angeles Rams will travel up the coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers in another divisional game that’s sure to have playoff implications.
Just around a month ago, we speculated that this game would be the one to be flexed for the Bills, although we thought that it would end up in the primetime slot rather than the midday matinee. The league chose to go with the West Coast matchup over the AFC East rivalry in the late slot, however.
This is the second consecutive year that the Bills will travel to Foxborough in Week 16 to play New England. Last year, the Bills lost 24-12 in a game where Tom Brady was held to 126 yards passing. He threw two interceptions, as well, but the Patriots racked up 275 yards rushing in the victory. Josh Allen completed 20-of-41 passes, throwing two interceptions and a late touchdown pass to Zay Jones.
This year, the Bills figure to be in the thick of the playoff race, with the contest perhaps being a determining factor in seeding for both teams.
