DeSean Jackson kept out as a precaution per Doug Pederson, will undergo further testing Monday

Thank goodness for a bye week.

Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson spoke after the win over the Bears, and said that the plan was to play DeSean Jackson — which they did, briefly — and that it was precautionary to keep the receiver out after the first series. He also noted Jackson would undergo further testing on Monday.

BLG: How is DeSean Jackson doing after coming out? What was the plan with DeSean today?

Pederson: The plan was to play him, obviously. So, we’ll have some more testing done in the morning. I’ll probably have a better update on him, but the plan was to play him.

BLG: The entire game?

Pederson: Yeah.

Bob Ford: Did he tweak himself? Or was this precautionary?

Pederson: It’s precautionary right now. We’ll get some more testing on it, and find out tomorrow.

He had one catch for 5 yards, but didn’t return after the first series. Instead, with the Eagles up by 3 over the Bears early in the second quarter, Jackson ended up in the locker room. The team announced he was questionable to return, but the broadcast said he’d be held out, instead.

Pederson previously said they wouldn’t put the receiver out there until he was back at 100%, but admitted that even the threat of him being on the field helped their offense.

Jackson has missed most of the season with a core muscle injury, but the team decided not to put him on IR as he recovered. Pederson confirmed that the wideout would not require hernia surgery earlier in the season, and Jackson was able to finally return to practice ahead of the Week 9 game.

Thankfully, the Eagles are on bye in Week 10, so Jackson will have an extra week to continue healing and hopefully feel more comfortable in his (next) return.
