Injury updates: Dee Ford could miss the next couple of games

Jalen Hurd is not expected back, either

Kyle Shanahan met with the media Monday afternoon and announced that Dee Ford has a hamstring strain and could miss a couple of weeks. He acknowledged that it’d be a week-to-week deal, but it’s likely Ford won’t play. Ford played 20 of the possible 67 snaps in Sunday’s matchup game against the Cardinals.

With Ford out, the 49ers will likely lean on Damontre Moore and Julian Taylor as they did against the Cardinals. Taylor is a stout run defender, while Moore the better pass rusher. This is where having depth pays off. It’s also worth noting that Ford hasn’t played more than 46% of the snaps since Week 1.

Joe Staley will be out once again with a finger injury. Justin Skule, who struggled Sunday, will face Green Bay Packers pass rush that is tenth in adjusted sack rate.

By the sounds of it, Shanahan isn’t expecting Jalen Hurd back this season. His words were “not looking good.” That’s the worst-case scenario now for both Hurd and Trent Taylor. Two receivers the 49ers were counting on will play zero snaps in 2019. That leaves Kentavius Street and Jason Verrett as possibilities to come off IR, per Shanahan. With Ford down, Street may get the call if he can practice this week.

Shanahan said it will be a similar situation with K Robbie Gould (quad), TE George Kittle (knee, ankle), RB Matt Breida (ankle) and DJ Jones (groin) as it was last week. They’ll see how week goes and make determination later in the week.
