Seattle Seahawks defensive edge (yeah, I chose that word on purpose for some reason) Jadeveon Clowney was held out of Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles but hopes to return next Monday against the Minnesota Vikings. Head Coach Pete Carroll gave the update at Monday’s press conference.

Carroll noted that the injury was related to a sports hernia, as John Gilbert wrote here earlier today. The great news is that there doesn’t appear to be that fear of a long-term absence due to surgery.

Without Clowney, the Seahawks had some success pressuring Carson Wentz against a depleted offensive line that eventually got down to its third right tackle on the depth chart. Clowney has three sacks and 12 QB hits in 10 games this season. He is a free agent in 2020 and Seattle promised not to put the franchise tag on him, so a long-term deal appears imminent from some team and Clowney is likely eager to keep adding to his resume.
