Matt Ryan limited, Wes Schweitzer out for Thursday Falcons practice

Ryan and Desmond Trufant are on track to play, but three Falcons seem destined for the shelf.

Let’s start with the good news. With limited practices under their belts on Thursday, Matt Ryan and Desmond Trufant seem likely to play Sunday. Their presence on the field—particularly Ryan’s—should at least ensure a more competitive effort against the Saints.

Jamon Brown, James Carpenter, and Jaeden Graham also practiced on a limited basis. It’s not ideal when both of your starting guards are dealing with injury issues but that’s also been very much par for the course in 2019, so hopefully both Brown and Carpenter will be ready to go, especially if Ryan is back.

The bad news is that Ito Smith and John Cominsky appear to be out this week, and Wes Schweitzer was downgraded from a limited practice on Wednesday to outright out. If Schweitzer can’t go—and given that he’s apparently dealing with a concussino, I’d say that’s a strong bet—it’ll be on Matt Gono and Ty Sambrailo to hold down the fort if Brown or Carpenter can’t go the full game. This team’s offensive line situation is not getting much better, even if I wouldn’t mind Gono getting some actual game action for these Falcons.

Friday’s practice will be pivotal, as always, but I’d say expect Matt Ryan out there Sunday and bet that Desmond Trufant will be, as well.
