The New England Patriots on Tuesday made an interesting roster move regarding Jared Veldheer. Veldheer signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Patriots in May, but two weeks later told them he was retiring. The Patriots released Veldheer off the reserve/retired list because the lineman still wants to play, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports. Veldheer, 32, was a third-round pick by the Raiders in 2010. He played 12 games for the Broncos last season as a tackle and was flagged for seven penalties all season, including four false starts. Rapoport suggest Veldheer could be a late-season addition for a team that needs a lineman.
