Adam Schefter is reporting that Drew Lock will, in fact, make his first NFL start for the Denver Broncos this Sunday as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
What we all suspected would happen, the Denver Broncos will start rookie second-round draft pick Drew Lock this week as they host the Los Angeles Chargers. Adam Schefter has confirmed through league sources, so it would seem a new era is about to begin in Denver.

Lock has come a long way since Training Camp when even Vic Fangio noted that he had a long way to go before he’d be game ready.
“I was hoping for more, but [I’m] not surprised,” Fangio said in August. “He’s still got a lot of work to do. I thought his accuracy wasn’t clean all the time along with his reads, but that’s to be expected. We’ve got four more games and we’ve got to get him ready, more ready than he is right now.”
But at 3-8, it has now become ready or not for Drew Lock.
He has the arm strength few quarterbacks - even Peyton Manning - in Denver have had in recent years. If the offensive line can keep him clean and Rich Scangarello can keep things simple for him in these last five games, it could be an opportunity for some rapid growth for Lock in his rookie season.
Scangarello was able to get some big plays out of Brandon Allen, but ultimately is limitations as a quarterback was exposed by defenses over the last six quarters of football. With Lock, Scangarello will need to do more of the same to help create some of those big play chances. Fortunately, Lock’s arm strength might get him out of more trouble than Allen’s could.
Hopefully we’ll see some of this over the next month. If Lock proves he can be an NFL star, the Broncos could move forward in 2020 with some real optimism.
