It’s an AFC South showdown as the Colts and Texans shine on Thursday Night.
The AFC South is one of the closest divisions in the NFL, and tonight’s match between the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans will help determine who leads after Week 12. Both teams enter this game tied with records of 6-4. Meanwhile, the remaining two divisional teams, the Titans and Jaguars, are 5-5 and 4-6, respectively. With so little ground to give, this could be a pivotal showdown.
The Colts are entering the game without running back Marlon Mack, who was injured last week. In his stead is Jonathan Williams, who racked up over 100 rushing yards after Mack left. He, Jordan Wilkins, and Nyheim Hines are candidates to split the backfield workload. Elsewhere, Jacoby Brissett has played well after Andrew Luck’s abrupt retirement to start the season, and looks to be healthy after a injury caused him to miss a game.
The Texans have been consistent with their wins and losses in 2019, and if you love patterns, you will love this schedule. Houston has followed up every loss with two-straight wins, no more, and no less. A loss to the Saints was met with two wins. A loss to the Panthers was met with two wins. A loss to the Colts was met with two wins. Having lost last week against the Ravens, a pair of victories should be on the horizon, right?
Superstition and statistical coincidences aside, Deshaun Watson has been excellent this season, although the loss to the powerhouse Ravens was a quiet night for him. Houston’s rushing attack has been a pleasant surprise in wake of Lamar Miller’s season-ending injury during the preseason. Carlos Hyde has had a resurgence, while Duke Johnson has filled in well as a change-of-pace back.
