Vikings Dalvin Cook hopes to tie Adrian Peterson’s record this Sunday

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Kansas City Chiefs Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

106 yards is all Cook needs to get 1,000 rushing yards in 10 games. And we all know he’s going to do it.

This Sunday, Minnesota Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook has a very good chance to join Adrian Peterson in a very illustrious club.

Cook leads the NFL with 894 rushing yards, which puts him 106 yards away from 1,000 yards in the first 10 games of a season. According to vikings.com, Peterson accomplished this feat in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013. Robert Smith also rushed for 1,000 yards in 10 games in 2000.

When asked by local media, Cook felt to be in the same sentence with Peterson is a feat. “Any time you can be mentioned with a guy like that is awesome. Just to be mentioned with that guy in any conversation is always tremendous.” When Dalvin gets to 1,000, he will become the 18th Vikings running back to do so and the first to do it since Peterson in 2015.

Cook knows what it takes to get to this point and said of his chance to reach this number, “It just shows you the work and the time and everything that has been put into this thing. Just keep chipping away and working hard, and things are there to be accomplished.”

His hard work is definitely paying off, and we are not the only ones who are noticing. Teammate and wide receiver Stefon Diggs is rooting for Cook to get 1,000 as well.

“That would be huge. I kind of spoke (to the media) the past couple of years about how special he is and about how special he was going to be. This would be a small milestone for what he can do, and I look forward to it. I’ll be out there blocking for him.”

While we won’t be blocking for him, we are rooting for him to run wild this Sunday when the Vikings play the Dallas Cowboys. And no one put all of our feelings into words better than Cook himself.

“I’m actually fired up to go play down in that stadium. It should be a good event.”

More like making your mark on Vikings hisyory, but I’ll leave the humility to Dalvin.
