Nick Folk kicked in three games for New England prior to his Week 13 release.
The New England Patriots’ fifth kicker of the regular season will likely be the third.
New England is expected to re-sign Nick Folk on Saturday, as reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The Patriots had waived Folk with the non-football illness designation following his emergency appendectomy on Thanksgiving. The 2007 Pro Bowler, who spent this past spring with the Alliance of American Football’s Arizona Hotshots, went 7-of-9 on field goals and 3-of-3 on extra points during his initial stint in Foxborough.
Folk’s next stint looms along with a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
A corresponding move will follow to make room on the 53-man roster.
The Patriots, who worked out Folk on Friday, according to Rapoport, had until 4 p.m. ET Saturday to add a kicker after completing a week’s worth of practices without one.
Last week, veteran free agent Kai Forbath signed in time for one practice before New England traveled to NRG Stadium. And in place of Folk versus the Houston Texans, Forbath converted a 23-yarder and went 1-of-2 on extra points. He would be waived on Monday.
An October of Mike Nugent and a September of Stephen Gostkowski preceded them.
The reshuffling started four games in as Gostkowski went to injured reserve to undergo hip surgery. New England’s second-longest-tenured player, and all-time scoring leader, hadn’t missed a game since the second half of 2010.
Rookie punter and holder Jake Bailey has handled kickoffs for the Patriots in Gostkowski’s absence.
