According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Indianapolis Colts worked out a familiar face on Monday, as the team took another look at wide receiver Dontrelle Inman:
With a host of injuries at wide receiver, the Colts worked out a familiar face: WR Dontrelle Inman. He played well for them in nine games last season and was recently released off of IR by the Chargers. A reunion would make sense.

Of course, Inman played in 9 games (4 starts) for the Colts last season as a savvy mid-season veteran signing, recording 28 receptions for 304 receiving yards (10.9 ypr avg.) and 3 touchdown receptions.
Right now, the Colts wide receiver corps is significantly depleted to say the least, as wideout Chester Rogers is the latest casualty to suffer a season-ending injury—joining Devin Funchess and Daurice Fountain so far this season.
Meanwhile, both T.Y. Hilton (calf) and Parris Campbell (hand) missed last weekend’s game and are no guarantee to play this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Inman was signed by the New England Patriots this offseason, but never played a snap for them—having requested and been granted his release in mid-August.
He quickly resurfaced with another one of his former teams, the Chargers, but caught just 8 receptions for 132 receiving yards in 4 games (1 start) before being placed on the team’s injured reserve in early October (quad)—only to be released last week.
The 30 year old wideout is familiar with Colts head coach Frank Reich’s offensive playbook and system—having not only played for him last season, but also having been coached by both Reich and offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni during some of his prior tenure with the San Diego Chargers.
At this point late in the season, Inman would be able to play meaningful offensive reps for the Colts and hit the ground running—which given the lack of healthy bodies at wide receiver, may very well have to happen on Sunday.
