Domo: DeSean Jackson turns 33 Sunday. He has started and finished one game this season. Alshon Jeffery, who turns 30 in February, has missed three games-and-counting with injuries and is having the worst season of his career. Will either of them be back next year? [...] Banner: My inclination is to think they’re both gone. I think they’re going to be afraid to trust either one of them and they’re going to be afraid to be back in this same situation with them next year. [...] Domo: Getting rid of them though is going to involve a pretty substantial salary cap hit. They just restructured Jeffery’s deal in September, which guarantees his entire 2020 salary. Won’t that affect Howie’s willingness to show both of them the door? [...] Banner: They’re definitely going to have to eat some cap dollars. But we saw the Steelers eat $21 million in cap money this year when they realized they were better off without a player (Antonio Brown).
Eagles make three roster moves ahead of Dolphins game - BGN
In other roster news, the Eagles activated Cre’Von LeBlanc from injured reserve. This development was expected since Strap returned to practice earlier this week. The Eagles now have seven corners on their 53-man roster: Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Avonte Maddox, Rasul Douglas, LeBlanc, Craig James, and Sidney Jones. Strap figures to be a backup nickel corner in addition to contributing on special teams. [BLG Note: Sidney Jones is now the seventh cornerback on the Eagles’ roster.]
Five over/unders for Eagles’ Week 13 matchup vs. Dolphins - PhillyVoice
Without a healthy Jordan Howard, Wentz has dropped back over 100 times in the last two weeks, despite not having any of his three starting wideouts from Week 1. That’s poor coaching. Sure, the Eagles were without Howard, but they had Miles Sanders, Jay Ajayi and Boston Scott and still only ran the ball 18 times each game. On top of that, they were without Lane Johnson for most of both games and without Brandon Brooks for the majority of the Seahawks game, and they still failed to run the ball. That’s unacceptable and seems like a sure-fire way to put your franchise quarterback in harm’s way. Needless to say, that’s what happened, with Wentz coughing the ball up several times to go along with eight sacks in the last two weeks. On Sunday, the Birds will have Johnson and Brooks back. But they should still look to get back to running the ball more, even without Howard, who will again be sidelined with the stinger he suffered back in Week 9. If they do that, Wentz should be able to limit his mistakes (read: turnovers) and the Birds should fly back north with a much-needed victory.
Game Preview – PHI at MIA - Iggles Blitz
The Dolphins upset the Colts a few weeks back. The key to that upset…takeaways. The Dolphins only 8 of them all year and 3 came in that game. For them to beat a better team, they need to come up with impact plays on defense. I’m curious to see how Pederson calls this game. Miami is 31st in the league in rushing yards allowed. That would tell you to run the ball. You have to factor in that Miami is losing big on a regular basis so teams are calling mainly running plays in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins don’t give up a ton of passing yards, but opposing QBs have a rating of 106.8 and have thrown 27 TDs against them. Don’t be shocked if Pederson has Carson Wentz throwing the ball early in the game. Miami struggles to rush the passer. They only have 14 sacks this year. Part of that is on the rush and part is on a weak coverage unit.

Alshon is clearly not the player he once was, and I’m on record as saying Howie has to find a way to move on from him after the season. But he’s still better than anybody else the Eagles have right now, and the Eagles need him down the stretch. All the injuries have taken their toll, and he’s nowhere close to the Pro Bowl, 1,400-yard guy he was in Chicago. But if he can just give the Eagles 60 or 70 yards a game it’ll be huge. Just be average. Just give Carson one reliable wide receiver. Just show up and stay engaged and catch the football. Is that too much to ask? Since Jeffery got here in 2017, the Eagles are 29-11 when he starts and finishes and 9-13 when he doesn’t. He still makes a difference. Come on, Alshon! Dare to be mediocre!

If the Eagles lose this game, the team’s problems are even worse than perceived. The Dolphins are a two-win team constructed without winning this season in mind. They rank 30th in total offense and defense, and there aren’t many categories in which they’re even in the top half of the league. (You need to get down to red zone offense and penalties per game to find areas to credit.) The Eagles are coming off two bad losses, but the defeats came against two of the NFL’s best teams. The level of competition goes down, and the level of production should go up. Look for the running game to find room against the Dolphins’ front and for Wentz to be smart with the ball. This could be Sanders’ best game to date. The Eagles defense should win at the line of scrimmage, making it difficult for Fitzpatrick. And without needing to worry about the Dolphins’ running game, the Eagles can focus on stopping the pass. I thought they would lose the past two weeks and still play for the division crown against Dallas in Week 16. I’m not moving off that position. Eagles 28, Dolphins 10.
Week 13 NFL best bets: A number we like on each game - ESPN+
Philadelphia Eagles (-10, 45) at Miami Dolphins. It is hard to handicap this game with all the injury questions. Last week, the Eagles played without Jordan Howard, Alshon Jeffery, Lane Johnson and Nelson Agholor. Tight end Zach Ertz missed practiced Wednesday and there are no guarantees any of them play this week. Take the 10 with Miami, right? As Lee Corso would say, “not so fast my friends.” After their mini two-game win streak, the Dolphins have allowed 78 points to the Bills and Browns, failing to come close to a cover. Not a team you can trust. This is the first time Philadelphia has been a road favorite of 7+ in a Carson Wentz start. Each of the last five times Philadelphia faced a team with a losing record, the game went under the total, including all three this season (Falcons, Jets, Bears). ESPN’s FPI has it closer to 11.2, so not much of a lean there. For us at Chalk, it’s a pass. Pick: Pass.

n the other side of the ball, the Eagles got back cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc – activated on Saturday to the 53-man roster – and now add to their personnel flexibility in the secondary. Avonte Maddox has played very, very well as the nickel cornerback and, of course, Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby have been outstanding since returning to the outside. LeBlanc was terrific last season, rescuing a cornerback room that had been decimated by injury. LeBlanc came right in off of waivers and handled the nickel position professionally, and he was rewarded with a new contract through 2020. So, it’s good news that he’s ready to play football. “It’s been a good week,” LeBlanc said as he arrived at the team hotel on Saturday. “We’ll see what happens but I feel like I’m ready to play and help this team.”

The Miami Dolphins host the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend in a game featuring two teams on two-game losing streaks. Which team will right themselves? Which team has the advantage heading into Sunday? I had a chance to speak with Brandon Lee Gowton, the manager of Bleeding Green Nation, SB Nation’s Eagles site, to get a closer look at Miami’s Week 13 opponent. We will start with when the Dolphins have the ball. On offense, the Dolphins have struggled, especially on the ground, this year. The offense is currently 30th overall with 264.9 yards per game, 27th in passing with 201.7 yards per game, 32nd in rushing offense with 63.2 yards per game, and 30th in scoring offense with 14.8 points per game. It has not been pretty.

13. Philadelphia Eagles (5-6). Considering the way Philadelphia’s offense has played recently, the no. 13 spot honestly might be too high. But the Eagles defense has found its footing with cornerbacks Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby back in the lineup, and the absence of right tackle Lane Johnson was at least partially to blame for Carson Wentz’s brutal outing against the Seahawks on Sunday. Philly may not be the contender I expected them to be coming into the season, but this offense is still much better than it has looked in the past two weeks. With DeSean Jackson on injured reserve and Alshon Jeffery still banged up, the Eagles’ receiving corps may be a lost cause in 2019—but there are brighter days on the horizon.

It is starting to feel more and more like somebody not named Jason Garrett is going to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next season. While none of that is factual at this point, the current state of the team cannot be denied. Jerry Jones has publicly said that he believes in finishing this season out under Jason Garrett, but that doesn’t answer who will be the head coach in 2020. Our friends at BetOnline have provided another batch of odds on various candidates and some of the names are intriguing. New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels currently leads the odds.
