Report: Browns could wait until after playoffs to hire coach

The Cleveland Browns are the last team with a head coaching vacancy to still be going through their hiring process, and it sounds like they’re willing to take their time. The Browns interviewed New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on Friday, as scheduled. While there was some initial reporting indicating the Browns could offer McDaniels the job before he departs the facility, that does not appear to be true. Facing no competition for candidates, the Browns are prepared to be patient, and according to Mary Kay Cabot, they would even be willing to let it play out through the NFL postseason. The Browns have spoken to several candidates who are still coaching in the playoffs. While they could theoretically still hire them now, these are the advantages of being the last team with an opening. The Browns are in no hurry, and they don’t need to be. They shouldn’t be, either, as this is a hire they have to get right with the talent they have and Baker Mayfield in need of guidance.
