What are the odds? Titans vs. Patriots

NFL: Preseason-New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Can the Titans send the Patriots packing?

Well if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it big. That’s at least what the Titans have a chance to do on Saturday night in Foxboro. Tennessee will make the trip north with a chance to send Tom Brady and Bill Belichick packing with a former New England great leading the charge.

Mike Vrabel’s first game against his former head coach went really well, ending in a blowout win last season in Nashville. But this is the Patriots in the playoffs, which is usually a different story. Then again, this isn’t the typical death machine that we’re used to seeing.

The Patriots ended the regular season with a loss to the Miami Dolphins, moving them to 12-4 on the year. New England’s typically outstanding offense was just average this season, ranking midpack in total yards during the regular season. The clear strength of this team shifted to the defense, which gave up just 14 points per contest.

That group will now be tasked with taking on a hot Tennessee offense, which could feature Derrick Henry in some winter weather. The Patriots will no doubt key in on Henry, but this Titans team is different because of its passing attack. Ryan Tannehill, A.J. Brown, Corey Davis and Jonnu Smith have transformed this Tennessee offense into a two-dimensional attack — will it be enough to knock off the Patriots, perhaps ending a dynasty in the process?

Vegas isn’t a believer just yet, but this line is closer than anything we’ve seen in this situation. New England is favored by just five points, which is where they opened most places. Money has been divided down the middle throughout the week. The total sits at 44.5.

So while confidence is oozing out of this team and fanbase right now, are you confident enough to take the Titans +5 here? Or even the Titans on a moneyline gamble at 2-1 odds? After all, this is still New England in January. But things do feel different.
