2020 Combine: These 10 offensive tackles are can’t miss TV

The Browns apparently will need two new tackles to compete in camp

With the bad play of RT Chris Hubbard, and the recent arrest of LT Greg Robinson in a huge weed bust, the Browns are suddenly in need of not one, but two quality guys to come in and compete for both starting tackle positions.

The best scenario is for new GM Andrew Berry to draft one of the blue-chip offensive tackles with the 10^th overall pick, and then sign one of the better free agent options. That would probably solve the situation.

Perhaps, Cleveland should draft two new guys as well as sign a top-notch free-agent. Or get this as a situation: one of the premier defensive players, such as LB Isaiah Simmons or DT Derrick Brown, just happens to fall to the Browns at the 10^th slot. It has happened before. Maybe they snag one of those players, and then wait until the second-round to get their tackle; or perhaps select another tackle later as insurance or depth.

The Combine is in full-swing now with results aired on NFL Network. The offensive line players will perform their drills, run the 40 and showcase their skills on Friday from 4-11 p.m. (eastern).

Here is a list of offensive tackles Browns’ fans should be watching that will help the club immediately.

Trey Adams – Washington: 6’, 8” 327 pounds

Round projection: 4

Two Time First-Team All-Pac 12, shows serious athletic ability for a man his size. Quick feet is essential for an OT and Adams has it. Big, bulldozer type body and hand work.

Mekhi Becton

Mekhi Becton – Louisville: 6’, 7” 369 pounds

Round projection: 1

Massive human being. Had a tremendous junior season capped off by being named First Team All-ACC. Very smooth blocking techniques with tremendous reach. Very, very strong man. Road grader type player.

Saahdig Charles – LSU: 6’, 4” 295 pounds

Round projection: 2

Might need to bulk up a bit, but is a terrific pass blocker. Good push, but needs a bit of hand work. Natural athlete without any quit on plays.

Austin Jackson – USC: 6’, 8” 327 pounds

Round projection: 2-3

First Team All-Pac 12 last year. Excellent run blocker and may be suited for the right tackle position. Needs to become stronger and had some problems with speedy defensive ends. Very good reach and is an exceptional drive blocker.

Josh Jones

Josh Jones – Houston: 6’, 5” 311 pounds

Round projection: 1-2

Heavy riser since his success at the Senior Bowl. Not exceptional reach, but he is strong and able to push aside bodies. Second Team All-AAC as a senior. Quick transitions and can handle the quicker defensive ends.

Lucas Niang – TCU: 6’, 7” 328 pounds

Round projection: 2

Another load of a man. Second Team All-Big 12 his senior season. Long arms for good reach with good functional power. Very strong. Moves exceptionally well for a man his size. Not the best pass blocker, but is instinctive in the run game.

Andrew Thomas – Georgia: 6’, 8” 327 pounds

Round projection: 1

Thomas has been linked as the best tackle in the draft – or the third best. Was a three-year starter in a difficult conference and saw some of college football’s best defensive ends. A true left tackle, has size and athleticism and quick feet. Unanimous All-American and First Team All-SEC his final year of college. Would become an instant starter.

Prince Tega Wanogho - Auburn: 6’, 5” 307 pounds

Round projection: 2

First Team All-SEC as a senior. Footwork seems to be a work in progress, but is a good drive blocker in the rushing attack. Needs to win more push battles. Good mobility, but contact balance is mediocre. Works well as a run blocker.

Jedrick Wills

Jedrick Wills – Alabama: 6’, 5” 320 pounds

Round projection: 1

Might be the best tackle in this year’s draft. Last year was First Team All-SEC. A true right tackle, is a power blocker with consistency with staying with his man. Spectacular first blows and is very strong. A vicious personality on the field with confidence.

Tristan Wirfs – Iowa: 6’, 5” 322 pounds

Round projection: 1

Named the Big 10 Offensive Lineman-of-the-Year last year as well as First Team All-Big 10. Very rare specimen of size plus strength. Can play either side which is a plus. Power is his best attribute and does not get beat in pass protection.
