Dennis Smith was really freaking good

The added benefit to Steve Atwater heading to the HOF is Broncos Country gets to remember and pay attention to one of the greatest players in franchise history.

Good morning, Broncos Country!

There’s a double benefit to Steve Atwater finally getting his due.

Usually you have to pay double to get this kind of deal, but for a limited time it’s free.

The Smilin’ Assassin gets his deserved and rightful place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Dennis Smith gets the attention he deserves for how freaking good he really was. Atwater announced that his former teammate would present him at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in August and it was the coolest thing ever. To see one of the best safety duos in Denver Broncos and NFL history back together again is perfection.

I’ve said how over the moon I am for Atwater to get into the Hall of Fame, but the fact Smith is getting this attention is that double benefit. As Adam Malnati and I have talked about on the MHR Radio Podcast, Smith is one of, if not the most, undervalued and under-appreciated players in Broncos history.

For the younger fans who weren’t able to watch Smith, he really was that freaking good. And I loved that Ryan Greene with CBS4 in Denver sent out some highlights of Smith when Atwater said Smith would present him.

Like Atwater, Smith could do it all as a safety. He could cover, he could play the run, he could tackle, he could make plays on the ball and he could hit. Man, could Smith hit. As is the case with great players like Smith, he made it look easy.

I love that Atwater is headed to Canton, Ohio, but the double benefit is Broncos Country gets to remember and pay attention to one of the greatest players in franchise history.
