Former Cowboys wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal is headed to the Seattle Seahawks

Former Cowboys coach finds a landing spot.

A lot has changed with the Dallas Cowboys since last season ended, and most of it has had to do with the coaching staff. Out is Jason Garrett and in is Mike McCarthy. A change at the head coaching position is obviously something that trickles down to the staff below him and the Cowboys have plenty of new faces working for the new man in charge.

Offensively there were a few holdovers from the Garrett era that will now work for McCarthy. Doug Nussmeier is back, although he’s changed from tight ends coach to being in charge of quarterbacks, and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will be back as well.

Beyond that, though, meetings will look quite different as McCarthy has brought in people that he prefers. We’ve seen Jason Garrett find work for himself as the new offensive coordinator for the New York Giants (offensive line coach Marc Colombo followed him in the same role), but what of the rest?

Sanjay Lal is headed to the Seattle Seahawks

A former Cowboys coach found himself entering the world of college football this past week when Scott Linehan was announced to be joining the staff at LSU. Another recent coach went from the Cowboys to the SEC as former wide receivers coach Derek Dooley found himself at Missouri after working for America’s Team.

What about the most recent wide receivers coach? Sanjay Lal emerged as a name that many people knew well, especially once the Cowboys acquired Amari Cooper, but the new staff elected to move on from him. Lal has found new work and is headed in the opposite direction that Kris Richard recently took. He’s headed to the Seattle Seahawks.

Can also confirm the reports that Sanjay Lal will join the Seahawks offensive coaching staff. Seattle not expected to make any changes with its coordinators or other "major'' assistant spots.

Seattle has a pair of pretty prominent receivers in Tyler Lockette and DK Metcalf so there won’t exactly be a shortage of players for Lal to work with. The Seahawks also have one of the game’s best quarterbacks in Russell Wilson which surely can only help everyone’s job be easier.

The Cowboys will visit Seattle in 2020 so they will at one point see their old friend on the opposite sideline. Last time they traveled to the Pacific Northwest for a Cowboys/Seahawks game a former coach of one team had some of his work telegraphed by his new one. Unfortunately, that worked against the Cowboys last time, perhaps it’ll go the opposite direction later this year.
