Heading into the offseason, the 49ers have some work to do get the roster ready for another run at a championship. Free agency and the draft will be important to retain their own guys and add some depth to the roster. The 49ers would like to keep a few of their key guys who are up for free agency such as Arik Armstead. In the draft, the 49ers do not have a pick after the 1st round until the 5th round. Unless they hit on another George Kittle in the later rounds, most of those players they select will likely be role players or backups. With that being the case, the players the team has returning from injury will be almost as important as free agency or the draft.

The receiving group should be immediately upgraded with the return of Trent Taylor and Jalen Hurd. Emmanuel Sanders is up for free agency and with limited cap space available, the 49ers may decide to not bring him back, so the team will be in need of receivers. Trent was having a great showing in training camp before going down with his injury and missing the regular season. Jalen was a 3rd round pick and there was high hopes that he would be a productive weapon, but he also dealt with an injury in training camp that forced him to miss the season. Aside from Deebo Samuel who starred in his rookie year, there should be a battle for roster spots in the receiving group. Trent and Jalen should be prime candidates to win those and produce for the offense.

Both lines will have players returning. The defensive line missed DJ Jones, especially in the Super Bowl, who was having a breakout season before missing the rest of the season after Week 14. Weston Richburg, who also went down in Week 14, was having a great season as well before going out. Both players were crucial to their side of the lines and they should be ready for the start of training camp. Having both back anchoring the defensive and offensive line respectively should get the team in a good spot to compete again for a title.
