The Draft Network’s Trevor Sikkema joined Ryan and Ben on BCT to discuss “groin season” and how the Broncos might address the WR position in the 2020 draft.
With Laviska Shenault high on several people’s draft boards, and his potential fit in Denver, it might be interesting to see if the Broncos target him in the second round. His groin injury has created some doubt around him, but he looks like a player that could go pretty high in the draft.
As far as Denver’s needs, Allbright asks an interesting question. Should the Broncos go after one of the top-3 wide receivers with the 15th pick, or is it better to wait until round 2 because of the depth of the position? Trevor’s answer makes a lot of sense.
With the type of speed Henry Ruggs has, and his other attributes, like durability, and his ability to take contact, it would be a seemingly perfect fit for the Broncos to draft him at 15. He would be an excellent compliment to Courtland Sutton and the other receiver’s in the mix for Denver.
The depth at WR could allow the Broncos to wait to take a receiver. However, waiting might not be the smartest play. With so many variables, and an inability to really account for crazy draft day changes, waiting is a risk. Trevor calls it Russian Roulette, making the idea of waiting to try and get extra value a big gamble.
We won’t know exactly what John Elway wants to do until Denver is on the clock. In the meantime, it will be a fun ride as the Broncos prepare to make that pick.
