Zimmer: What should the Vikings do?

Merry Monday, everyone!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. My kiddo turned 5 on Saturday, so I was at some trampoline jumping place for a couple of hours that day. I survived.

There will be a poll below. I’m curious to see the general consensus regarding Mike Zimmer. He is coming up on the final year of his current contract. The team has several options, I’ll be interested to see which option they choose and/or if they do anything prior to next season.

Zimmer has had a successful tenure as head coach. He has compiled an overall regular season record of 57-38-1, and a playoff record of 2-3-1. The Vikings have managed to make the playoffs in 3 of Zimmer’s 6 years as head coach. In 2015, they won the division and were a shanked 27 yard field goal away from winning their first playoff game. They won a game and advanced to the NFC Championship game in the 2017 season, and they upset the Saints in the wild card round, then lost to the 49ers in the divisional round in last season’s playoffs.

Personally, I would have signed him to an extension prior to making any moves at the coordinator positions. IF they planned on pursuing a Wade Phillips or another experienced coordinator, they would have had a higher chance of success in signing them if the current head coach wasn’t approaching a lame duck year. I think Zimmer has done a fairly good job since coming here in 2014, when he inherited one of the NFL’s worst defenses, and turned it around in short order. Since that time, the Vikings have enjoyed more consistency and stability than they’ve had since Denny Green coached the team. Zimmer has dealt with a great deal of turnover in the offensive leadership positions, which has been difficult, as Zimmer’s strength is on the defensive side. Does the coach need to improve in areas? Absolutely (EVERYONE has areas where they need to improve), but I think he has a good leader, and can get the Vikings to where they want to go. What say you?

We come to today’s media selection:

We discussed music last week, so here is one of my favorite current musicians. I love country, but am not a fan of most new country. Here’s a guy who still does it the right way. This is Mr. Robert Earl Keen, enjoy!

We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the tiger meat.
