Nick Caserio’s Patriots contract was set to expire following the 2020 draft.
Nick Caserio’s run as the New England Patriots’ director of player personnel will continue beyond the 2020 NFL draft.
As reported Wednesday by the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin and TheMMQB’s Albert Breer, New England is finalizing a multi-year extension with Caserio, whose previous contract was set to expire in the spring.
It is an organizational tenure that dates back to 2001.
Caserio has held the titles of personnel assistant, offensive coaching assistant, area scout, wide receivers coach and director of pro personnel for the Patriots. The 44-year-old John Carroll graduate became New England’s director of player personnel in 2008.
“Nick helps in a lot of ways,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said as training camp opened last July. “Nick has a lot of experience. I’m sure he does much more than any other personnel person in the league does with his added coaching responsibilities and interaction with the coaching staff. Yeah, he’s a great asset in a number of areas.”
The Houston Texans had requested permission to interview Caserio in January 2018, and for a second time last June. After tampering charges were filed and subsequently dropped by New England, Houston announced they had ended their GM pursuit of Caserio.
