Report: ‘Pieces in place’ for NFL CBA to be signed

The NFL and NFLPA are currently engaged in a lengthy meeting at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Obviously, the goal here is to hash out a new collective bargaining agreement after owners approved the deal last week. The union decided to push back a vote by its executive committee until these meetings took place. There’s some evidence that something could get done here soon. According to Albert Breer of MMQB, “pieces are in place to do a deal.” Breer goes on to note that nothing is guaranteed. ESPN’s Dan Graziano adds that the meeting is currently in its third hour. At issue here is an extension of the regular season to 17 games and a new playoff format that would include an extra team in each conference. Revenue sharing, the league’s marijuana policy and other topics are also being discussed. The hope is that a deal will be signed by the start of the new league year on March 18. Given that the two sides decided on meeting in Indianapolis, signs point to this happening.
