The Broncos Country Vote Mock Draft v7.0

Denver Broncos v Houston Texans Elway’s made his fair share of deals, what if he pulls another? | Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images

If John Elway trades up, who should the target be for the Denver Broncos in the 2020 NFL Draft?

It’s been a few weeks since we took a look at who the Broncos could decide on if they moved down in the draft. This time around it seemed like a good idea to move in the other direction, especially with rumors that Elway called to get a feel for the price at number one.

Let’s get into it.

1. Cincinnati Bengals - QB, Joe Burrow, LSU

We’re at that weird part of the offseason where people are trying to talk themselves out of Burrow because his ceiling isn’t high enough. Yep.

2. Washington - ED, Chase Young, OSU

If Chase Young was the first overall pick candidate, we’d be hearing about how he didn’t show up in the Clemson game (he did, by the way).

T3. Miami Dolphins - QB, Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama

All reports suggest he’ll be healthy. If that’s the case this may be the most mocked trade in the history of Mock drafts.

T4. Jacksonville Jaguars - CB, Jeffrey Okudah, OSU

WILDCARD! This is a weird scenario for one big reason. Dave Gettleman has never traded down in the first round of the draft in seven years as a GM, which makes the idea that he’d be willing to here seem unlikely. But what if the Jaguars come at him with a big offer to replace Jalen Ramsey with the best cornerback prospect since... Jalen Ramsey?

T5. Las Vegas Raiders - QB, Justin Herbert, Oregon

Beyond that, it could make a ton of sense if the Raiders aren’t happy with Derek Carr. Herbert is about as close to a local product as they’re going to find his draft. He’s got special arm talent and looks the part, which may be enough for Gruden to believe he can work out the rough edges. Lastly, he has to know he’d need to move up past the Los Angeles Chargers or risk the Duck landing in the AFC West.

T6. Cleveland Browns - OT, Tristan Wirfs, Iowa

A shocker, but after Tom Telesco loses out on his quarterback he moves down with the belief that one of the four remaining players on his board will surely be there. Cleveland pays a pretty price to jump up, but Wirfs clearly looks like the best player for the offense Kevin Stefanski looks to be installing.

T7. Carolina wants down and Elway decides to strike. Vote for who you would draft in this scenario Broncos Country!

What to expect from Pat Shurmur’s offense - Mile High Report

For this week’s episode of Cover 2 Broncos, Jeff Essary and I took a look through Pat Shurmur’s modern offenses dating back to 2017 with the Vikings. We gathered insight into:

Should fans be worried about the year to year inconsistency?

Is it really a more aggressive offense?

How will the offense impact personnel?

Why Noah Fant will benefit more than most.

What about Drew Lock? Why Andy Janovich is safe, but Andrew Beck could have a fight on his hands.

How many receivers does Shurmur carry? Tight ends? Fullbacks?

What does the change mean for the offensive line?

Will young receivers be able to make an early impact?

Is speed or the ability to separate more important for receivers?

“I’m going to have to go with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs,” Hall said. “I keep him in the division — he knows that division very well and anytime you don’t feel the love reciprocated, you want a little payback. So you want to see those guys twice a year.”

15. Broncos – Colorado WR Laviska Shenault Too perfect for the Broncos to import the local product over from Boulder. I think Shenault is better than the general public does. He wasn’t done any favors by his offensive situation, his quarterback, or his health at CU. And on the health front: You try staying healthy when your team needs to force-feed you the ball every play to win. But I think Shenault is a pretty safe bet to turn into a guy who’ll evoke a mishmash of Sammy Watkins and Anquan Boldin. Shenault is a fortified 225-pounder who’s hell to bring down. He’s not just a tough-guy, though, you can use him in a myriad of ways. Colorado lined him up all over the place, including at Wildcat QB.

Junior Courtland Sutton is great and all, but Drew Lock needs more weapons. Lamb is a big-time playmaker.

Colorado WR Laviska Shenault won’t need surgery on nagging injury

The diagnosis, found during a visit at Dr. William Meyers’ office in Philadelphia, actually is good news for Shenault, who will not need surgery and hopes to participate in this month’s combine and then at his pro day March 11.

Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa headline interesting QB class at NFL combine

The NFL scouting combine is essentially boiled down to four key phases: medical evaluation, interview, athletic testing and positional workouts. This year, in previewing the 2020 combine, we decided to highlight one prospect at each position who needs to nail (at least) one phase of the combine.

For modeling quarterback prospects, we can completely ignore every athletic test, including size, and just focus on what they did in college. Particularly, age-adjusted production, mobility, and strength of schedule are predictive to NFL success. In this column, I’ll share each NFL Combine invitee’s historical ranking in these metrics, write up what I see on film with some statistical evidence to back up my opinions, and run each prospect through my model

A lot of quarterbacks could be on the move this offseason, and some with roots to only one franchise.

2020 Super Bowl: The real reason the 49ers lost to the Chiefs

Perfect play-calls don’t happen by accident. They’re the result of intense film study, pattern recognition and, in this particular case, a naive defensive play-caller who thought he could get away with showing one of the NFL’s sharpest offensive minds the same coverages over and over again. That one play didn’t cost the 49ers a championship. But it was just one of many failures by Saleh to change the picture for Reid and Mahomes, which helped them lead the furious comeback.

Colorado expected to contact Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy - NFL.com

Unless he feels the pull to go back to his alma matter, however, it’s difficult to imagine the OC leaping to the college level. After hoisting a Lombardi, Bieniemy is the clear-cut top head coaching candidate next offseason, has a great thing going in K.C., and has nothing else to prove to earn an NFL head coaching job.

Vikes’ Kubiak excited to call plays: ‘I never lost the joy’ - NFL.com

”I get here, we put a system in place, we go to work, we do a job throughout the course of the year,” Kubiak said. “And then one thing changed: One guy got a head coaching job. For me, it’s very familiar. I didn’t have to go back to work a month ago and, say, start over with a new group of coaches. We’re way ahead. We can go back to work and try to make up some more ground here. I think all those things together added a little fuel to the fire, so to speak. It made it easier for me to say, ‘Zim, I appreciate the opportunity, and I’m looking forward to it.’”

Eleven wide receivers averaged $15 million per season on their contracts in 2019. Golladay deserves to leap into this group soon.

Sanders: It’s crazy people keep talking about my age - NFL.com

”It’s crazy how people keep talking (a)bout my age but I’m still flying past 23-year-olds and only had two drops the entire year,” Sanders wrote on Twitter Tuesday night. “Keep bringing up my age to make yourself feel good but go look at the film. I’m still playing at a high level and will continue to play at a high level as long as I want (because) my heart is immeasurable and my work ethic is second to none! And this is coming from a good place. I wish nothing but love and happiness to everyone. Just think it’s funny that people keep bringing it up as if it’s a valid point. Lol.”

Is a Reggie White-style free agency tour coming for Tom Brady? – ProFootballTalk

NFL falling all over itself to sign a really old QB feels like such a weird gamble. Not as if he’s taking Josh McDaniels or Belichick with him.
