And according to sources familiar with the situation, Staley wasn’t even interviewed for the Eagles’ vacant offensive coordinator position this time around. Holding an OC or DC position often leads to a head coaching opportunity. But Staley, according to a handful sources, may make a better “head coach than a coordinator.” Staley, who is highly respected by the players he’s coached and by the Eagles franchise, was described by NFL sources and players as a “great leader,” “a true motivator,” “a father figure,” “an energy guy who can fire his players up to run through a wall for him,” and a “loyal guy who deserves a shot at a head job.”

I said early on last year there’s two components to being a great offensive coach, playcalling and play design and the great ones excel at both. Scangarello has significant growth opportunities on the playcalling side. I honestly think this is the perfect fit for him. Working with a guy like Doug Pederson, who can potentially even groom Scangarello with his playcalling experience (as it seems like he’s grown quite a bit in that area since dabbling with it under Andy Reid), while also leaning on the strength of Scangarello, which is his designs and gameplanning, I think is a perfect match.

2020 NFL Free Agency Preview: Players to target, ideal plans of action, potential cuts and more for all 32 teams - PFF
Philadelphia’s wide receivers produced the worst receiving grade in the NFL in 2019. With the $40 million at their disposal, they have to add a wide receiver. Robby Anderson is an intriguing option for the Eagles — he’s racked up the 11th most receiving yards on 20-plus yard targets since 2016 and did so while seeing just a 41% catchable target rate on those deep passes (eighth lowest). He won’t win in contested situations, but he can torch you with his speed and would be a nice compliment to Alshon Jeffery. Jason Peters highlights the Eagles’ crop of soon-to-be free agents, and while he might be 38, he was still the sixth highest graded tackle of 2019. Peters has said he still has another year left in the tank, so the Eagles should act on that. Both Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills will enter free agency, and considering they were 110th an 99th in PFF grade among cornerbacks in 2019, respectively, it might be best to pursue other options. Neither Eli Apple nor Trae Waynes have quite proven themselves yet, but they were both average to above-average in PFF grade, ranking 61t and 44th, respectively. They’ll both likely receive one-year, prove-it deals and who knows — they might finally break out with the Eagles. Either way, they would be an incredible upgrade from what we saw out of Philadelphia’s corners in 2019.

The Jaguars may have two former NFC East head coaches on their coaching staff in 2020. According to a report from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo is slated to become the team’s quarterbacks coach. This news comes just a few weeks after the Jaguars hired former Washington head coach Jay Gruden as the team’s offensive coordinator.

There is a lot of work to do to mend these broken fences. Trent Williams is now entering the final year of his contract and still has no guaranteed money in his contract. An extension that includes guaranteed money is likely what it will take to bring Trent back. If the deal doesn’t work for both sides. The Redskins will head to the Combine in 2 weeks with a valuable asset to trade.
Report: Cowboys trying to “buck history” with Dak Prescott deal before franchise tag deadline - Blogging The Boys
Under the rules of the current CBA, teams are allowed to use both the franchise and transition tags this particular offseason. Given that Dak Prescott is priority number one, something Stephen Jones said recently, it makes sense to focus on him first, but if a tag is not needed on him then that frees the Cowboys up to place both of them on say Amari Cooper and Byron Jones. That’s where getting this done soon would be very beneficial. Of course the Cowboys are not likely going to get a deal done with Dak before the deadline unless they are in the neighborhood of a market-setting deal (what most quarterbacks get). Dak’s representation has no need to rush a deal as the threat of a franchise tag will only stress out the Cowboys. Time is ticking.
Dak Prescott is the new Kirk Cousins - SB Nation
The Cowboys have that with Prescott, who’s coming off the best season of his career. Whether or not he’s an elite level-talent who can lead you to a Super Bowl without all the pieces being in place — like Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson — is up for consideration. What’s not up for discussion is that Dallas would be better moving forward with Prescott than without him. That’s what makes his contract situation surprising to me. When a franchise LOVES a quarterback, it makes a deal happen. The Cowboys have clearly set their price and years on a contract and have not budged. Prescott’s camp has their number in mind and they aren’t moving either. We have a good old-fashioned contract standoff, with neither side “winning” at the moment. This situation reminds me of Washington’s standoff with Kirk Cousins from a few years back. Washington, like Dallas, only appeared to like Cousins at a certain figure and no matter what, it wasn’t moving off that. So, both sides dug in. Cousins played two seasons for a combined $44 million under the franchise tag and then left for Minnesota in 2018. Washington has been in quarterback no man’s land since he left (even though the future could be bright with Dwayne Haskins).
