The coaching staff grows, and an interesting scenario thrown out by ESPN

Merry Tuesday, everyone!

Alright, well I’m glad to see ESPN is coming around, what a great plan! Hee hee, I love it, and I really love it that I didn’t have to post the story. They did it for me, and that makes me happy. Not that I’m under any delusions that the scenario is remotely likely, but I’m happy that I get to sit back & watch all the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Okay, on to less serious matters. We all acknowledge that cap space is going to be an issue for the Vikings. I plan to post daily polls in order to get an idea of which changes we feel the team should make in order for them to free up some cap space. I’ll bring up a different player each day, one whose contract is likely to be considered as in need of a change, and give some options for what to do with that player. That way, we can gauge the general consensus of the supremely knowledgeable and the extremely good-looking clientele who frequent the Daily Norseman Open Thread. Thereby, we will know exactly what the Vikings should do. If the front office reads the open thread, which they should, they will be led to the promised land.

Yesterday’s poll results were a tad surprising. Judging by the number of comments I see which suggest a growing dislike for the head coach, it seems that many still support him (I include myself as one of those in support of Zim).

Yesterdays’ question was: What do you think the Vikings should do regarding Coach Zimmer? The results as of the posting of this story:

  • 51% believe the Vikings should sign him to an extension prior to next season (213 votes)
  • 19% thinks the team should wait until next season to decide. See how the team is playing, extend him if they’re playing well. (79 votes)
  • 17% want to let him play out his contract, then decide what to do after next season ends (71 votes)
  • 4% feel that they should be looking for his replacement to take over after next season......or sooner (20 votes)
  • 1% want to find another head coach prior to next season (5 votes)
  • 4% think we should fire everyone, especially gone fishin’ and just_rob (19 votes) It’s hard to argue with that, to be honest.
  • 4% don’t know anything about football. They just come here for crock pot recipes, and they would like us to quit bothering them (18 votes)

Around the DN since our last open thread:

@This shouldn’t cause any issues at all@ ESPN hypothesized a ‘Teddy returns to Minnesota’ scenario, per Chris.

The Vikings have added Dom Capers as a Senior Defensive Assistant, per Chris. I assume the ‘Senior’ is in reference to Capers’ position, and not his age.

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

Philip Rivers is to enter free agency, and will play for a team other than the Chargers for the first time in his 16-year career, per the Detroit News. The Chargers obviously have Easton Stick on the roster, so they have the freedom to move on from Rivers, despite Rivers’ greatness. (Stick graduated from NDSU, for those of you who didn’t know, so I may be a little biased)

We come to today’s media selection:

Here’s another current favorite of mine. Another guy who does music the ‘right way’, in my opinion. This is Chris Knight with ‘Down the River’, enjoy!

We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the liver and onions.
