The wide receiver is the 36th Bears player to receive the annual award.

Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson will receive the team’s 2019 Ed Block Courage Award, they announced on Thursday. The ceremony will take place during a luncheon in Des Plaines on April 7.

The Ed Block Courage Award is given to one member on each of the 32 NFL teams. The player exemplifies courage and sportsmanship and plays a vital philanthropic role within the community. Proceeds attached to the award go to a “Courage House”, an agency that supports victims of child abuse to which each team is designated.

Robinson, who was also named as the Bears’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, has been an active member of the community since signing with Chicago in 2018. His foundation, the Within Reach Foundation, provides children from low-income areas with access to educational opportunities to improve academically and strive for a successful life.

The award has been given out every year since 1984. The Bears’ nominee last season was tight end Zach Miller, and past winners include Keith Van Horne, Kevin Butler, Charles Tillman, Brian Urlacher and Kyle Long. Ed Block was the head trainer for the then-Baltimore Colts who served as a foster parent and an involved helper to victims of child abuse and other children in anguish.
