BREAKING: Tom Brady, Buccaneers agree to a deal

What was perceived at some time to be a long shot is now a reality.

The story of the off-season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been whether or not Jameis Winston would be the quarterback in 2020, and possibly beyond. The story of the off-season for the NFL has been Tom Brady and his future.

Quite rapidly, both storylines seemed to collide, really gaining steam when Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians mentioned Brady as a player he’d pick up the phone to talk to when the time came to potentially pursue outside quarterback options.

Those phone calls did in fact happen, and Arians did in fact get his man.

The NFL’s own Twitter account posted the below report, where NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport states that an agreement between both the Bucs and Brady is in place.

There was plenty of speculation surrounding Brady’s potential fit with Tampa Bay, and the potential he could decide to leave the New England Patriots franchise he’s won six Super Bowl titles with since the 2001-02 NFL season.

All the conversations left just about everyone assuming the Bucs would not be tagging Winston, and that he would be allowed to seek employment with a team other than the one which drafted him first overall in 2015.

The Buccaneers tagged linebacker Shaquil Barrett. It was then that everyone’s eyes turned to the clock anticipating what might come at noon eastern, as the ‘legal-tampering’ period officially began.

For everyone hoping there would have been a quick resolution and answer to where Brady would be playing, the opposite played out. As the minutes ticked away, more speculation and information hit social media to give fans a glimpse of what was happening behind closed doors.

After Brady announced he wasn’t returning to New England early Tuesday morning, reports quickly stated that Tampa Bay had not spoken to Brady’s camp, including general manager Jason Licht saying that they were just waiting like everyone else for a decision to be made.

But as the day rolled on, other reports began to come to light saying that the Bucs would be signing the veteran quarterback.

So they will.

There’s no confirmation as to when said deal will be announced. But for now, enjoy how the stars have aligned for the Tampa Bay organization as they were able to land a star at quarterback.
