The deal is done, the Cowboys have another defensive tackle.

[UPDATE]: Originally it was reported that the Cowboys and Dontrai Poe had reached agreement on a one-year deal. It turns out that it is actually a two-year deal. Here is the update per Todd Archer:

BTW, those are some very good financial terms for the Cowboys, well done Jerry and Stephen.

It took a little longer than anticipated, but the Cowboys finally completed their deal for defensive tackle Dontari Poe. It was last Wednesday when Ian Rapoprt tweeted that the deal was done in basic terms and that there were only some details to work out.

It took a few says, but the Cowboys and Poe came to an agreement on a one-year deal.

Archer notes that Poe will still have to take a physical but for now a contract is done. We don’t know how much the deal is for, but they didn’t sign him to a longer-term deal like they did with his teammate Gerald McCoy. That was a three-year deal that with incentives could be worth up to roughly $20 million. The Panthers didn’t pick up Poe’s option year in 2020 and saved around $9.8 million against the cap but took a $3.3 million dead money hit.

Poe’s size represents a change in the Cowboys defense under Mike Nolan. At 346 pounds, he will be a true nose tackle that can anchor the middle of the line and be a run-stuffer. The good news is Poe is also pretty nimble and can move around well for such a big man.
