The Rams have several key players who are free agents. With a projected $15 million in salary cap room, most of the early offseason talk has centered on possible restructures that will allow the Rams to pursue their own free agents and do some outside shopping.
Keeping some of their own will not be simple, however. Let’s look at the five key free agents on my list.
Cory Littleton: Rams’ fans know this, but Littleton is an underrated player by most team’s fan bases. But the problem for the Rams is that Littleton is not underrated by the 31 other teams in the NFL. There has been a lot of buzz about Littleton in free agency. Tackle machines are hard to come by. Littleton is going to get big offers elsewhere. It’s going to be difficult for the Rams to keep him.
Dante Fowler: Fowler finally showed the consistent pass-rush flash that made him the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2016 by Jacksonville. Fowler, acquired from the Jaguars in 2018 in a trade, had 11.5 sacks in 2019. It was great timing for his foray into free agency. Sacks equal money in the NFL. Fowler will probably get an offer he can’t refuse elsewhere.
Michael Brockers: He has spent his entire eight-season career with the Rams. He will forever be remembered as a Ram no matter what happens this offseason. Brockers, who is still only 29, had one of his better season in 2019 with 69 tackles. He is solid player and he should get some interest from some contender looking for veteran leadership. I could see New England perhaps showing interest. Still, don’t count out the Rams here.
Andrew Whitworth: The stalwart left tackle wants to be back. The Rams want him to be back. This should happen.
Austin Blythe: There is a gap between the fourth player on this list to the fifth. But Blythe is a valuable interior lineman. Offensive linemen get paid in free agency, so it wouldn’t be a shock if Blythe gets big interest on the open market.
What are your thoughts? What is your top five order? Let me know in the comment section.
