BEST PICK: S Juan Thornhill, 2019 (Round 2, No. 63 overall). Since Veach was not the Chiefs GM during the 2017 draft, Patrick Mahomes isn’t in play here. Thornhill played all 16 regular-season games as a rookie, recording 57 tackles and a trio of picks.
BEST VALUE PICK: WR/KR Mecole Hardman, 2019 (Round 2, No. 56). The receiver/returner showed a lot of promise as a rookie. He has good hands, quickness to create separation and breakaway speed.

The Chiefs have a big need at cornerback, and even with several coming off the board in the back half of the first round, Igbinoghene represents a great find who can lock down one starting spot.

The Chiefs could have their choice of the top running backs, but they also need to get younger/better along the interior of their offensive line.

Kansas City: Trade down, draft Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Edwards-Helaire is a tough runner, as he showed during LSU’s national championship run, but he’s a truly dynamic receiver — the kind of weapon that would be particularly scary when paired with Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City will need cheap offensive weapons when Mahomes gets his mega-extension, and trading out of the first round to get Edwards-Helaire in the second would help.

The two-time All-Pro and reigning Super Bowl champ is someone offensive coordinators need to account for on every snap. The guy is everywhere, actively playing mind games with opposing coaches like Chris Jericho standing ringside during an Inner Circle match.

Several other players would have been better choices for all-decade punt returner than Hill. Marcus Sherels and Ted Ginn both had more than twice as many punt return yards as Hill. Julian Edelman, Dwayne Harris, Patrick Peterson, Antonio Brown and Travis Benjamin all had more punt return yards and as many touchdowns as Hill.

The newly crowned Super Bowl champion hasn’t had a losing season since 2012 when he was in Philadelphia, and that was only the third losing campaign of his 21-year career. The Chiefs could somehow go 0-16 in 2020, and Reid would still have the job if he wants it.
At 62, he’s probably strapped in until he decides to walk away.

“There’s not concern,” Kingsbury said on a video conference call with reporters on Tuesday. “But those aren’t official, as far as I know, at this point, but we’ll get it done. Obviously the medical field and personnel have much bigger fish to fry at this point. And so, it’s been slower than it would be, but I have no doubt it’s going to be done before the draft.”

My favorite was in the Week 8 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the second quarter, a trick play sent Thigpen streaking down the field. Wide open, he caught a beautifully thrown ball from wide receiver Mark Bradley for a 37-yard touchdown that put the Chiefs up 21-3.
To my knowledge, he is still the only Chiefs quarterback to throw and catch a touchdown in the same game. But in 2008 Chiefs fashion, the team squandered a 21-point first-half lead and ultimately lost the game 30-27.
His best stat line came in Week 16 against the 9-5 Miami Dolphins. The freezing temperatures didn’t stop him from putting up 377 total yards and three touchdowns — including one rushing. Of course, the Chiefs lost the shootout 38-31 — and I’ll choose to ignore Thigpen’s three interceptions.
