Derek Wolfe nearly asked to be traded to the Ravens during the 2019 season

Good Morning Broncos Country!

The Denver Broncos 2019 season was a rough one for everyone. While it did on a promising note under rookie quarterback Drew Lock, a few veteran players were looking or at least considering jumping ship during the midst of their struggles prior to Lock starting. We saw Emmanuel Sanders get traded to the 49ers but nearly saw another veteran get traded.

Defensive lineman Derek Wolfe who recently just signed with the Baltimore Ravens told reporters that he nearly asked General Manager John Elway to trade him to the Ravens prior to the 2019 trade deadline. His loyalty for the Broncos eventually won over and he didn’t go through with it, but the Ravens were clearly an organization that stood out to him.

Wolfe wasn’t re-signed by the Broncos this past offseason after they traded for Pro Bowler Jurrell Casey and re-signed Shelby Harris to a one-year deal. There just simply wasn’t any room for Wolfe and the Broncos came out looking pretty good. Wolfe was a key contributor for the Broncos successful periods but it appears both sides made out okay in their split.

His desire to be a Raven was so strong that when he saw reports of the Michael Brockers deal falling through, he called his agent and told him to make it happen no matter the price.

Wolfe’s good feelings for the Ravens date back to his pre-draft visit with the team. He came away feeling confident in the way they did business after he met with them during the draft process . He continued by saying I’m all about it. I love it. I’m very grateful for it.”.

Two former members of the Broncos/Ravens also helped influence Wolfe into making this decision. Former Broncos pass rusher Elvis Dumervil told him that he would be a “perfect fit” in Baltimore. Also, Joe Flacco whom Wolfe ate breakfast with every morning last season continuously sang the Ravens praises to Wolfe.

All this led to Wolfe leaving the Broncos and signing with the Ravens. As I said earlier, both sides came out looking alright.
