Related: Patriots’ Julian Edelman arrested for misdemeanor vandalism in Beverly Hills
On January 11, one week after the New England Patriots’ season-ending playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans, Julian Edelman was arrested in Beverly Hills and cited for misdemeanor vandalism. The Patriots wide receiver had allegedly jumped on the hood of a parked Mercedes-Benz, causing damage. Police were in the area working on a robbery case at the time the arrest was made and later released Edelman from custody.
The 33-year-old will not be prosecuted, however, as first reported by ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss. Edelman had originally been scheduled to appear at Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles later today, but “the owner of the vehicle has informed the DA’s Office that he does not want the arrestee to be prosecuted for the proposed vandalism charge,” according to an official filing by the L.A. County District Attorney’s office.
The DA’s Office also noted that the vehicle’s owner has been full compensated by Edelman for the repair cost. The case filing was therefore “declined in the interest of justice.”
The Patriots’ number one wide receiver, Edelman caught 100 passes for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns over the course of the 2019 regular season. He also rushed for a five-yard touchdown in New England’s wild-card playoff loss to the Titans. The MVP of Super Bowl 53, Edelman will return to the team in 2020 as one of its longest tenured members following the offseason departures of veterans Tom Brady and Stephen Gostkowski.
