The Panthers continue to build their defense from the bottom up.
The Carolina Panthers have selected defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos from Penn State with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. And, in case you were wondering how to celebrate, the Panthers have your back:

Gross-Matos is a junior who played in 38 games during the three years of his college career for the Nittany Lions. He recorded 65 tackles, 37 for loss, 19 sacks, two passes defensed, and 2 forced and recovered fumbles. 14 of his tackles for loss and 9.5 of his sacks came in his dominant junior year in 2019.
At the combine he measured with ideal size and mixed, but mostly impressive athleticism for an every down defensive end. Coming in at 6’5” and 266 pounds, he should be able to hold up the edge as the Panthers transition back to a predominantly 4-3 base defensive front.
SB Nation’s Dan Kadar had Gross-Matos as the fourth best available player on Day 2 and the 25th best player overall in the 2020 NFL draft. Meanwhile, NFL.com has him rated as a “boom or bust” prospect following his combine testing. The Panthers had a significant needs across their defense and they are clearly doubling down on their philosophy of building from the trenches.
