The Denver Broncos needed an infusion of talent at cornerback this offseason. They got a young gun on draft day that fits the bill in Michael Ojemudia
With the 77th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Michael Ojemudia out of Iowa.

College: Iowa
He joins Broncos Country with most draft pundits calling him a reach, but most familiar with Vic Fangio’s defense think the Broncos got the guy they wanted at just the right spot.
The Good
The big thing that sticks out to me when I look at tape on Ojemudia is that he plays very well in zone assignments. He’s really good at keeping his eyes on the QB while transitioning to the appropriate area for his coverage which puts him in position to do his job at a high level. It is this fundamental thing that in my mind made him a guy that Fangio wanted to get on the roster.
The other thing I really like about him is his size. He’s got great length for playing corner in the NFL which will allow him the opportunity to be able to match up to some of the taller NFL WRs and contest jump balls.
The Bad
I don’t see great top end speed from him, which can be a problem at the NFL level. He’s not a liability with a 4.45 forty, but when I look at the film, I’m not seeing speed being a big part of his game (though to be fair, in Fangio’s defense you don’t always need raw speed).
The other thing that can be cleaned up is his run defense. He’s not great with his angles yet as a tackler. A year of getting his body NFL ready should help as well as the coaching he’s going to be getting from Ed Donatell’s team.
Final Word
While I see both bad and good from Ojemudia, he’s the kind of guy you see teams take in the 3rd round who can easily turn into a starter if they have the right work ethic. He’s been put in my mind in the perfect NFL situation on the perfect defense to utilize his skills.
I honestly think we’ll be seeing this guy either starting for us as a corner at least in sub packages if not full time before the season ends. His real competition is going to be De’Vante Bausby from what I see currently on the roster. At worst, he’s going to be the #4 corner week one.
