Happy Wednesday, Falcoholinks! We’re just under 4 months away from the start of the regular season. And it’s likely to be an eventful 4 months. Think of it this way: In that time frame, the Falcons need to commence some sort of in-person off-season program, get through training camp, play 4 preseason games, and settle on a 53 man roster and practice squad. Meaningful football may seem far off in the distance, but when you break it down like that, things have to start happening sooner than you think. That is, if the 2020 season is actually going to move forward.
If there is a season, the Falcons will face off against the Cowboys in Week 2. Dan Quinn has actually enjoyed some success against the Cowboys during his tenure as head coach. That said, the stakes are a bit higher for Quinn these days. If the Falcons decide to roll into that game 0-1, Quinn’s continued employment may well rest on his ability to will this team to a victory over the Cowboys in Week 2.
Defensive tackle Sailosi Latu is one of 26 rookies the Falcons recently added to their roster. Evan Birchfield had a chance to ask Latu some questions and, as you’ll see in his responses, Latu definitely presents as a fit in terms of culture and his ability to buy in. In short, he’s a unique human specimen (334 pounds) and tenacious football player that will fight for an opportunity in Atlanta. Truth be told, the best case scenario for Latu is probably a spot on the practice squad, but he’s certainly going to fight for any opportunity to stick.
Last but not least, David Walker tried to make some sense of the fluid situation at linebacker. In particular, he broke down which players might start adjacent to Deion Jones in nickel sets.
Go forth, Falcoholics. Dance and be merry.
