Are the Lions making the case already?
Go ahead and fact check me, but I don’t think any area got addressed more than the secondary this offseason in the NFC North. In Detroit, the Lions had to address their need at cornerback with the loss of Darius Slay by adding both Desmond Trufant and Jeff Okudah. They also traded for Duron Harmon to be their deep safety.
The Bears lost a starter in Prince Amukamara, but signed Artie Burns to a one-year deal and drafted Jaylon Johnson in the second round. Minnesota probably had the biggest overhaul losing three of their cornerbacks: Xavier Rhodes, Mackenzie Alexander and Trae Waynes. This left them with an enormous hole at CB, so during the draft they selected three cornerbacks to make up for the loss, adding Jeff Gladney, Cameron Dantzler and Harrison Hand.
Green Bay is really the only team in the North to not have a lot of turnover in the secondary, but that’s likely because they are mostly set there. Jaire Alexander has performed well for them as their top corner, though on the opposite side Kevin King has been average at best. The strength of the Packers’ backfield is at safety, where they feature a very good duo in Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage.

Who has the best secondary in the NFC North?
My answer: Maybe I’m drinking the Kool-Aid, but I think the Lions did enough to give themselves the best secondary in the division. As we know, Matt Patricia wants to build from the outside-in, and I think this was a very good offseason in terms of addressing what they value the most on defense.
You could definitely argue that this secondary is unproven—and it is—but from a talent perspective, I don’t think the Packers, Bears or Vikings beat the Lions on paper when it comes to the secondary. I like at least a couple players on each rival team, but the Lions feel more complete to me. They just have to go out there and prove it.
