The Linc - Washington fans want Jason Peters

NFL: DEC 11 Redskins at Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 5/15/20.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

Would a Redskins contract with Jason Peters solve everyone’s problems? - Hogs Haven
The data indicate that Peters is still capable of playing a high number of snaps per season (he played in 29 games in ‘18 & ‘19 combined), that he is a capable pass blocker and run blocker, and that a year ago he was measurably better than Donald Penn. I’ll be honest with you, prior to the draft, I was 100% opposed to signing Peters, seeing it as a bad patch on a leaky tire. But with Charles on the roster, my attitude has changed. Peters could be exactly the right guy in exactly the right point in his career to join a young Redskins team, adding experience, leadership and quality on-field play that would make the team more competitive and give Saahdiq Charles the best opportunity to blossom into a talented NFL lineman. It seems to me that if the team and the player could find a contract structure that works for everyone, then the Redskins and Peters could be the best match available for both parties for the coming season.

The Best NFL Free Agents Left on the Market - The Ringer
OT Jason Peters — Potential landing spots: All signs point to the Eagles as the the most obvious landing spot; that’s where Peters wants to play, per reports, and the team remains interested. The Redskins have a need on the blindside, too, after trading Trent Williams to the 49ers.

The Broncos should sign Jason Peters - Mile High Report
According to Over the Cap, Denver currently has a little over $17 million in cap room. That’s a number that could go up if and when Justin Simmons agrees to a long term extension, Jeff Heuerman is moved, and a surprise cut or two happens after training camp. If Jason Peters is looking for a clear shot at a starting job, the Broncos make the most sense of any of the teams rumored to be interested. The Cleveland Browns drafted Jedrick Wills in the top 10 of the last draft and signed Jack Conklin this offseason. The Philadelphia Eagles have last year’s first-round pick Andre Dillard as well as Lane Johnson on the right side. The Jets just drafted Mekhi Becton, and while their tackle situation is even more dire than Denver’s, they also have less cap space.

Eagles Rookie Profile: 7 things to know about Jalen Hurts - BGN
2) What are his strengths? Rushing, obviously. Hurts is a solidly built player with sub 4.5 speed before bulking up a little at Oklahoma. He’s a gifted, smooth runner with that uncanny feel for never quite taking a direct hit. He was a monster in goal line situations, as he could power through defenders or beat them to the edge or QB sweeps. He’s extremely tough to sack, and the first rusher almost never manages to get him. Most of the sacks he did take in his career were of the -1 yard variety where he dodged a rusher or two and just barely didn’t get back to the line of scrimmage. As a passer, he’s got a great release and can really throw a fastball on those short-to-intermediate routes across the middle, and can launch a ball deep downfield with a powerful, horizontal trajectory. When he’s flushed out of the pocket, he’s great at throwing on the run to receivers coming back to him on the sidelines.

Preseason All-NFC East team: Defense edition - PhillyVoice
Interior defensive line: Fletcher Cox, Eagles; Jonathan Allen, Washington. Like Lawrence above, Cox is coming off a down year, but he is the only interior defensive lineman in the division that offensive coordinators go out of their way to game-plan against. He’s healthy again, and should be back to his old form in 2020. Allen has quietly produced 14 sacks the last two seasons on a terrible team.

Post-Draft NFL Rankings - Rotoworld
6. Carson Wentz — Impressive down the stretch last season, Wentz has improved skill group. [...] 12. Miles Sanders — As advertised, Sanders’ three-down skill-set destined for fantasy glory. [...] 46. Jalen Reagor — Set up to make instant rookie impact for offense that wants more deep passing. [...] 4. Zach ErtzDallas Goedert is rising, but Ertz should remain target hog.

QB support index: Analyzing the gap between the NFL’s haves and have-nots - The Athletic
The Eagles’ success in building an offensive line shines through. They would love to see wide receivers on that list as well. Before selecting Jalen Reagor with the 21st pick last month, Philadelphia has drafted five wide receivers in the first round since 1980. Mike Quick, chosen 20th in 1982, was the only one to earn Pro Bowl honors. Nelson Agholor (2015), Jeremy Maclin (2009), Freddie Mitchell (2001) and Kenny Jackson (1984) were the others. Of course, Ertz is a primary receiver as a tight end.

Betting roundtable: Our experts’ worst bad beats from the past year - ESPN
What is one of the worst bad beats you can remember from the past year? Youmans: There were a couple of sick beats early in the college football season — Northwestern at Stanford, Oregon versus Auburn — but nothing beats the Philadelphia Eagles-Washington Redskins game in Week 15 of the NFL season. I bet the Redskins +6 and they led 27-24 in the final minute. A touchdown pass by Carson Wentz put Philadelphia ahead with 26 seconds left. Washington was still going to cover unless something ridiculous happened — and, of course, something ridiculous happened. Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins panicked in the pocket near midfield and tossed the ball on the ground for no apparent reason. The fumble bounced up to Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham, who ran 48 yards for a touchdown as time expired for a 37-27 final. I was in the top 60 of the Westgate SuperContest going into the day, and that game started my late-season slide out of the top 100.

In QB room, Nate Sudfeld is ready for his shot at No. 2 - PE.com
Amid all of the hullabaloo from the time the Eagles drafted Hurts, the reality is that the talented young quarterback has a whole lot of work to do to learn the Eagles’ offense and with no spring on-field work in the offing, it’s going to be tough for Hurts to make up ground when Training Camp opens. Sudfeld knows the system, knows the coaching staff, knows the quarterback room, and he’s got a huge dose of readiness after a frustrating 2019 season. In short, Sudfeld is ready for the job. He thought he was good to go last year as the backup until suffering a broken left wrist in a preseason game against Tennessee, an injury that sidelined Sudfeld into the regular season. When Sudfeld was ready to return, the Eagles had already added Josh McCown to the roster and made him Wentz’s backup.

Mosher’s Too-Early 53-Man Eagles Roster Projection - Inside The Birds
QUARTERBACK (3) — Carson Wentz, Josh McCown, Jalen Hurts. Where’s Nate Sudfeld and how’d Josh McCown get here? I don’t think the Eagles need to carry four quarterbacks, two of them being developmental. The 1-year deal Sudfeld signed this offseason came with just $500,000 guaranteed, so the Eagles can save more than a million by releasing or trading him. They’d only cut him if they’re able to bring in a veteran. Enter McCown, who should be healthy by June. Just my hunch: Look for the Eagles to bring McCown back and ultimately transition him into a coaching role after 2021.

You might not recall the favorite Eagles memory of Montae Reagor, dad to first-round pick Jalen Reagor - Inquirer
The 2007 Eagles were unremarkable – they ended the season with an 8-8 record and didn’t make the playoffs. But the father of Jalen Reagor, this year’s Eagles first-round draft pick, has one cherished, vivid memory from the year he backed up starting defensive tackles Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley. Montae Reagor’s favorite moment came in the season-opening loss at Green Bay, which most fans recall as the day Andy Reid discovered that you can’t count on punt returners who have never returned punts in games. The Packers’ only touchdown in their 16-13 victory came on a punt muffed by Eagles wide receiver Greg Lewis, and their game-winning field goal was set up by the same thing — kickoff returner J.R. Reed unsuccessfully trying to fair-catch a short punt. The Eagles had spent the preseason preparing former Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom to be their punt returner, only to cut him.

Breaking down early Eagles point spreads - DraftKings Nation
The NFL released the 2020 schedule and the Philadelphia Eagles will look to get off to a fast start in their NFC East defense when they travel to face Washington. The Eagles are currently +140) to win the division, just behind the even money Cowboys. Philly’s preseason win total is installed at 9.5 with both the over and under paying at -110. DraftKings Sportsbook posted all the Week 1 point spreads the evening of the schedule release, and they have since added nearly 100 additional games throughout the season. DK does big business in New Jersey and Colorado, and so we get an almost full list of Eagles lines for the season. The only game that does not have a line is the Week 17 home finale against Washington.

Joe Buck: “Pretty much a done deal” FOX will use fake crowd noise for games without fans - PFT
Fans quite possibly won’t be present for football games in 2020. But that doesn’t mean it will be quiet. Via John Ourand of Sports Business Journal, FOX’s Joe Buck told Andy Cohen of SiriusXM Radio that “it’s pretty much a done deal” that the FOX and other networks will use fake crowd noise for games played without fans.

Every sport should have cardboard cutout fans like Korean baseball - SB Nation
The KBO, South Korea’s baseball league, has held live games for some time now. The stadiums are still empty, since fans are still not allowed in due to the coronavirus pandemic. The league hopes to gradually allow a certain percentage of fans as things improve in the country. But until then, the KBO has found a creative way to fill those seats: cardboard cutouts. It’s such a small and silly gesture that you wouldn’t think much of it had someone proposed the idea to you but after watching a game between the NC Dinos and the LG Twins, it made all the difference. The cutouts were complete with NC Dinos jerseys and speech bubbles to make them more lively. Members of BTS were “in attendance”, as well as dogs, cats, and even babies. The idea is so wholesome.
