The 2015 Denver Broncos defense got a little respect this week, but not enough if you ask me. Even here, that unit is underappreciated.
The 2015 Denver Broncos defense was a special unit. They put together one of the most dominant seasons and playoff runs in NFL history. Running the gauntlet of Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, and 2015 NFL MVP Camp Newton is about as impressive as it gets. The run also put them 8th on this all-time defenses in NFL history list.
No. 8: 2015 Denver Broncos
The 2015 Broncos defense is the reason Peyton Manning was able to retire with another Super Bowl win. With a mediocre offense, the defense led the league in total yards allowed (4530), passing yards allowed (3193), and ranked third in rushing yards against (1337). In the Super Bowl, they shut down Cam Newton’s Panthers in a 24-10 Broncos win.
Mediocre is a kind way to describe Gary Kubiak’s amoeba offense under Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler. The turnovers were excessive and the touchdown drives infrequent, but somehow they found a way to win 12 games and earn homefield advantage.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The only thing left to do now is for us fans to disagree with this ranking. Somehow, this Broncos defense got slated behind a few teams that were one and done in the playoffs and some that didn’t even make the playoffs.
It’s a team sport and you’d be hard pressed to argue any of these teams had worst offenses than the 2015 Broncos. Which means they couldn’t have had a better defense. At the 7th spot, the 1971 Minnesota Vikings were one and done after an impressive 11-3 season. Then at 6th is the 1991 Philadelphia Eagles who went 10-6 and missed the playoffs entirely.
After those two, you could probably make the case for any of the Top 5. All were Super Bowl champions spearheaded by elite defenses. So even though the Broncos 2015 defense made this list, they seemed to get a little less respect than they deserved for the run they had that season.

During the offseason, we might end up skipping the morning news link dumps. If we do that, it’ll be because we dropped FanShots into our Broncos news feed. This section is pinned up near the top, so you can’t miss it!
