Garrett Bradbury had a bit of an up-and-down rookie campaign for the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. After the Vikings drafted the center out of North Carolina State with their first-round pick, he immediately took over the starting spot at center, and did have some games where he looked pretty good, for the most part. He also had a couple of games where his grade as a pass blocker from the folks at Pro Football Focus went the full Blutarsky: Zero point zero.
With the Vikings still looking to solidify the interior of the offensive line. . .something it seems like we’ve said every year for the last decade. . .at least one outlet is expecting big things from #56 in his second season.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has put together his “All-Breakout” team for the 2020 season, and Bradbury is on the list as the team’s center. He’s the only Viking to make Edwards’ list.
The first season for Bradbury was a bit of a disappointment. There were higher expectations for the first center taken in the 2019 NFL Draft. Minnesota really devoted some assets to improving the offensive line this offseason and that should only aid Bradbury. There is a lot of talent in the N.C. State product’s frame and there are good odds that it will bubble to the surface in Year 2.
I’ve got to be honest. . .at this point, outside of Bradbury being locked in at center, I’m not completely sure what the plan is along the interior for the Vikings. Are the Vikings sticking with Pat Elflein at one of the guard spots? Is Riley Reiff moving inside so that Ezra Cleveland can bookend Brian O’Neill at the tackle spot? Are Dru Samia and/or Oli Udoh ready for prime time? Is there potential for a reunion with Josh Kline before the start of Training Camp?
I’d love to see Bradbury break out at center this year and give us the kind of performance that everyone is expecting from him in the Gary Kubiak-led offensive scheme. If it’s going to happen, though, it might be in spite of what’s next to him on the interior of the offensive line rather than because of it. But I’ve been wrong before.
