Not by much, but it’s something
It’s obviously way too early to make any solid predictions about how the 2020 NFL season is going to go, but that’s certainly not going to stop people from doing it. And, since there isn’t a lot of other football-related news to talk about, we’re going to look at what one of those predictions has to say.
It also helps that it’s pretty good news for your Minnesota Vikings.
ESPN has done a project where they’ve simulated the 2020 season 20,000 times as a way of attempting to determine their preseason favorites for the upcoming year. The Vikings don’t rank incredibly high in the final results, as they check in at #13 overall. In the 20,000 simulations that ESPN ran, they averaged 8.6 wins/season.
However, as lackluster as that sounds, it appears that would be good enough to win them the NFC North. Their NFC North rivals average 8.1 wins (Green Bay), 8.0 wins (Chicago), and 6.6 wins (Detroit) in these simulations.
The Vikings are also the only NFC North team that ESPN gives a better than 50% chance of making the postseason, which to me indicates that Minnesota would be ESPN’s favorites to win the division in 2020.
There are obviously a lot of things left to be determined before the start of the 2020 season. . .we still have Training Camp and preseason games and the potential injury pitfalls that could be connected with that. However, the incredibly early returns seem to indicate that this might not be a complete doom-and-gloom season for the purple after all.
